I love the results I have created with this masterpiece at the top end of Canon's DSLR's. It's a heavy bit of kit, but the weight appears to be relative to the quality of build in digital photography. It's certainly appears to be a robust bit of kit.

I decided to wait for 4 months after the purchase of this camera before reviewing it because I had coveted one for so long, that I thought there would be too much bias in my words if I wrote about it as soon as it was out of the box. It's taken a few weddings and other events for me to be able to best comment on all the things that makes this such a great camera.

We're now almost at video speed capture with this 10 frames per second and it purrs when you're in this mode because the shutters open and shut with such rapid fire that it's like a professional gambler fanning her deck of cards. OK that's the flowery bit over.

What I love best is shooting in low but natural lighting conditions. The ISO 3200 setting allows for incredible detail to be captured in low light and with equally, nay spectacularly low noise. I photographed a bunch of firefighters doing breathing apparatus training in a basement in Southwark using the 3200 ISO setting and the Canon 70-200 mm F2.8L image stabilising lens. A lovely combination and the results are outstanding.

On occasions where I cover sporting events, I have found that despite playing with a number of different focussing modes on the 1D, I get better focussing accuracy when using the 20D and 5D models, both used by our team of wedding and event photographers.

The MK III model utilises a new battery that is not compatible with previous models (the 1D Mk 1, Mk 2 & Mk2N). I think this indicates a lack of corporate imagination and environmental responsibility and is driven by the quick profit merchants who so mess up our lovely world. I hate it when people get greedy and thoughtless.

All in all, the camera is fun to use and it takes great pictures. What on earth are cameras for other than that?
