I made the decision to 'Go Digital' and because of the number of Canon EOS lenses I have I had no choice but to go for another Canon EOS camera. I borowed a Canon EOS 300D for a while and whilst it was OK for occasional use I found the construction a bit lacking and the facilites limited.
It was my experience of the Canon EOS 300D which promted me to go up market and buy the EOS 20D. I have used it for some weeks now and I do not for one moment regret spending the money. This is a faultless piece of equipment and I have still to use every function offered. So far I have used it with lenses ranging from a 17 - 35 mm zoom (Sigma) to a Canon 100-400 zoom with a 2x converter, Canon again. The latter combination gives an equivalent focal length of 1280mm and the quality is excellent despite the focal length. It goes without saying that a sturdy tripod is essential at this length.
I have also used two Canon flashes, the Speedlite 580EX and the MR14EX ring flash, both work fine with accurate exposure.
I have even used the camera on an old FD bellows, with adaptor of course, to copy some slides. The smaller image capture area makes it impossible to copy the entire slide but, if the cropping is acceptable, the final qualtiy is beyond criticism. Some exposure compensation is needed, this will have to be determined by experimentation, but I found that bouncing the camera mounted flash off a white projector screen gave the best results with accurate exposure and colour rendition.
In summary, if you are a Canon fan and have the money the go for it!!!
