I bought this as a replacement to my Olympus OM 10 which was starting to overexpose the top of my photos. I like Canon and the 300X had everything i needed.
Before moving to digital i mainly shot in slide, as this gave me the best results. The Canon's exposure was great and photos were crisp.
The focusing on this camera is very fast especially when put onto its sports mode. Even in poor light the focusing is quick. The camera's flash luminates the subject - as long as its close enough - and it focuses as normal. On the subject of flash the camera holds a pop-up flash on top. This can be set to come on automatically or manually as desired. Results were good at close range but, as with most flashes, at longer ranges the images look orangy. Thats why it also houses a hot-shoe for external flashes. One that can be angled would be nice. The fast shutter response allowed me to get some nice wildlife photos - i bought a 70-300mm lens for it. This was not an IS (image stabiliser) version so i had to use a tripod. The lens supplied is adequate - 28-90mm - though it is their basic lens. This zoom range is good for landscapes, especially the wide angle, and portraits (using the 90mm end of the zoom). For sports, or anything where you'll be far away from the subject, it's best to buy a zoom lens. The range of the standard lens is equivalent to 3x optical zoom. This is the same as your average compact camera. The 70-300mm lens that i purchased was just right. It was fine to hold and gave good results. Though a little big it was not overly heavy. In good light a tripod is not needed. There are a range of Canon lenses to suit anyones needs to fit this camera. As with any camera make sure you buy a good quality filter. These help to not just protect the lens but also to give better results. I bought a standard UV filter, but there are many more to choose from.
Film loading was a doddle compared to the Olympus. It has an automatic film loader which saves time and fiddling. You just place the film and pull the negative strip across. Close the back and it puts it into place for you - no fiddly teeth to match up. This has always worked perfectly.
The camera has an array of scene modes and manual overides (on a wheel) which are useful. They're nicely positioned to make it easy to use. The scene modes include: Sports - fast shutter speed, good depth of field, very fast focusing; Macro - you can get approx 35cm to the subject with standard lens and get some good results; Portrait - fast focusing, blurred background (as long as you use high end of zoom); Lanscape - focuses as much as possible, crisp results. Also on the mode wheel is Auto, Programme (more overides than auto), Aperture priority, Shutter priority.
One thing i don't like about new cameras is their manual focus. I think my olympus had a rangefinder (dont quote me on this though!) which is where there is a circle in the middle of the frame, with a line through it. You knew when it was focused because the image either side of that line matched up. A simple yet effective system. New cameras don't have this - so you've just got to use your eye. Having said that autofocus usually gets it right.
One other thing that i preferred about my Olympus is it was always in aperture priority - there was a ring with all the f numbers on the lens. Having this gives you much more control over the outcome of your images, mainly the depth of field. I know the Canon has aperture priority, but its just a bit fiddly.
That said, this was a good purchase. The camera feels nice, though a bit plastic, and handles well. If you're looking for a 35mm SLR then this one is as good as any.
Advantages: Easy to use, both automatic and manual Disadvantages: need to use a tripod on manual settings
This is a great camera and fairly cheap for the amount you actually recieve Im studying a level black and white photography i found this camera very useful as you can use it on automatic settings or manual settings so it is ideal for both begineers and advanced photographers
Easy to use extremely durable to all conditions
if you use the camera on manual settings it needs to be kept as still as possible as do most cameras i would suggest using a ...

Advantages: Oh, so many :) Check the review Disadvantages: The price...
Nikon managed to protect very well the two projects (D3 and D300), the first information that predicted the appearance of D300, where published on the Internet just 24 hours before the official release date.
D300 is a giant in technology (photo-technology)by now and needs a little more attention. In fact, D300 represents the new reference point in the professional zone of digital photography.
The only aspect, at which Nikon looses in front of Canon, is the number of megapixels.
If D300 offers 12.1 MP (4256x2232 pixels), Canon with his EOS-1Ds Mark III rises the record at 21 MP. It seems that even Canon has kept secret this model, or else, Nikon could have made up something like a resolution sensor (maybe better that Canon). But this a part of the gigantic marketing ideas.
Anyway, it was a huge surprise for all of us to find ...

Advantages: Simplicity and ease of use. Disadvantages: Costs can rapidly mount up.
-£15 depending again where you shop.
The "X-Pro" ring and holder cost £25 and £32 respectively and the filters themselves were £39.
You can see that costs can mount up quickly when you have a large lens and you want several filters.
As an indication a 121M filter can cost:
"A" £10.95
"P" £13.95
"X" £49.95
"Z" £34.95
As an example I took the following 4 shots from the same place with my CanonEOS300 digital camera using the "P" series of graduated filters numbered 121L, 121M and 121S fitted to the 18-55mm lens. All stops, film and shutter speed settings remain the same.
Fig 1 used no filter at all.
Fig 2 used P121L filter
Fig 3 used P121M filter
Fig 4 used P121S filter
There are variations you will note but I have not lost the definition in the clouds that can sometimes be lost when you have to turn up the brightness in a picture ...
Advantages: everything about it Disadvantages: still trying to find one
