Perfect for advanced beginners-semi professionals who want to do more than point and shoot but don't want to break the bank.
Personally I think the quality of this camera is good enough for professional use, with the right lenses and using manual settings!! It produces stunning results. You can get them extremely cheap from ebay these days too.
I have recently upgraded to the 40D for the simple fact that at higher than 400 ISO the 350D's images can be a bit too noisy. However, I am still using the 350D as a back-up camera.
I have owned mine for nearly 3 years and it has lasted through the continuous use well. It's very light but feels sturdy so it's not easy to break.
As for which lenses to get, I recommend just to look out for a lens which goes lower than f/3.5, as a rule of thumb the lower the f number the better the lens.
