For many years I had a manual 35 mm Fujica camera with a macro/zoom lens which I used mainly on the macro setting for photographing hamsters (yes those tiny little furry creatures that whizz around and never sit still).
I finally decided it was time I made life easy for myself and got an automatic camera which would take all the hassle out of trying to focus on a fast moving furball. For anyone who doubts this is difficult try placing a hamster on a surface, stand 2 foot away with a manual camera and a zoom lens and see how many good shots you get!!
With a budget of around £1,500 I looked around at what was available and decided that the Canon EOS3 was just the job .. even the write-ups and reviews in various magazines said it was "ideal for photographing fast moving objects".
So off I went and bought the EOS3 body, a macro lens and a zoom lens.
WOW what a difference! Instead of getting half a dozen good shots on a 36 exposure film I get 36!!! It is automatic everything! I don't have to worry about the aperture, the speed or the focussing! Just point and click and one beautiful hamster pic!
The most difficult part was setting up the configuration for my eye. This clever little camera can assess where you eye is looking and will focus directly on where you are looking - say for example you look through the viewfinder and there is a background object on the left and a foreground object on the right. By just looking at either object the camera automatically focusses on what you are looking at! Brilliant technology .. once you've got it configured just right.
It has many features I haven't used yet - various programs you can set, priorities for speed, aperture, etc. I'm sure I'll still be learning how to use it properly to its full potential in 20 years time.
For me the price was well worth it .. what I save on film and processing in getting 36 good shots instead of 6 per film and the amount of pics I take I am sure the camera has already paid for itself.
For anyone wanting to photograph fast moving objects I'd certainly recommend this camera.

(+) Fold out LCD screen, Image Stabilization, Zuiko lens quality, Picture quality, Flash options (-) Noise in low light, Too many buttons, Badly laid out, Too many gimmicks
Advantages: In my view the main advantage is this product capture 5 pictures per second. Disadvantages: But the pictures can't write to memory cards that fast

Advantages: Versatility, sharp 6.3 MP pictures, huge battery time, uses standard Canon lenses. Disadvantages: Just a little short of professional standards with speed of multi-shots and with landscape shooting. Small LCD screen.
