Having had a Canon EOS 350D, when the 400D was launched I was so confident of the brand that it was a forgone conclusion that I would buy one.
The build quality is the first positive point. It is such a solid camera, not that you would bash it on purpose, but it'll certainly take a few knocks without any problems. The 18-55mm kit lens that I got with mine is also pretty good. This does feel a little cheaply made in comparison to the camera, but it does the job and has good optics.
The screen on the back of the unit gives you all the information needed. Once a picture is taken it also gives you a preview. There is no live view, like point-and-shoot compacts and the latest digital SLR's. This means that framing your photos is done through the VERY clear optical viewfinder. The results are just stunning. The EOS 400D will beat any compact camera hands-down when it comes to image quality.
One problem I did have with my 350D was dust on the image sensor. Well, the 400D has a sensor cleaning mechanism, this works great every time you switch the camera on.
In summary, the EOS 400D handles like a pro-level SLR. Has great features, excellent manual control and also gains you access to Canon's wide range of add-ons and lenses. I am very happy with this camera and will always stick with Canon as a result.

How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
I nearly rated this as only somewhat helpful. Try taking a little longer on each review and write a little more. You'll get better ratings and possibly earn more money than if you stick so close to the minimum word limit. Look around and see what sort of reviews get rated highly.
