First of all, cameras must be put into perspective by placing them in either the entry level, mid level or high end level range of the market. The Canon EOS 450D fits quite nicely in the mid level range of the market and is suitable for both experienced and new photographers. The r.r.p. is about £670 but after quickly searching, you can expect to pay £430 (body only) or a reasonable £510 with the 18 - 55mm IS lens. I think this price is about right taking into consideration the features and comparison with the other DSLR's in the same mid level range. The sensor is a 12.2 MP CMOS which is suitable for poster size prints (A3 and even A2 should yield impressive results). In the early days of DSLR's, digital noise was a big issue but thankfully, as technologies improve, the quality also improves and the results speak for themselves! The sensor, along with the Digic III processor handles noise quite well and certainly matches other mid level cameras. A respectable 3.5 fps (frames per second) will be welcomed by wildlife photographers and sports photographers alike. The ISO range is reasonable with a range of 100 to 1600 ISO, which should manage to cope well with most light situations. The screen size is an impressive 3 inches which enables you to view your photos easier as well as the camera settings. This size is more than other cameras in this price range and is a good addition. The card format this camera takes is an SD/SDHC format and as prices of camera memory is falling all the time, you can pick up plenty of good quality memory too. I recommend going for several lower capacity cards as if a card becomes corrupted and it's a large capacity card, you've just lost a lot of photos!! I you have several smaller cards, the loss of the pictures on one card will be a lot smaller. The screen finder coverage is 95% which is a common coverage and the viewfinder is bright which gives a clear view. A 9 point wide area autofocus makes sure you manage to lock on to your target with a fair amount of ease. The camera also features an integrated cleaning system which uses three tactics to help resolve any dust issues (hoping to prevent them in the first place). The design of the EOS 450D is quite attractive with a typical Canon style body which has some smooth curves on the top and a ergonomic grip.
In conclusion, the camera is good enough for most people which the features necessary to produce good quality photographs, although remember, the photographer still does most of the work!
