It has very good quality output and looks built to last.
There is colour scan and fax, but printing and photocopies are mono (black and white) because it only has a monochrome toner - so no surprises there.
It has automatic duplex (both sides) printing.
print speed is fast.
cartridges are £60 for original ones and you may buy remanufactured ones at less than half price.
When I purchased Canon were including a 3 year next day on site repair warranty, but if you choose to use remanufactured toners then you will invalidate this warranty (i understand you still have the option to pay the engineer extra). Regardless it shows that they have a lot of belief in their product not falling over.
negatives for me are that the person this was bought for has fail eyesight and the lcd display is small and detailed for them. There is no handset ...

I have just brought this Canon Pixma MP140 printer for my own usage because it has got a patented print head technology that can create beautiful and long-lasting photos up to 100 years. We may not be there to see after 100 years but it is good to have a photos of long lasting. This printer cost is reasonable than HP printer. HP also has a B+ size printer available in market, its print quality will lost for 200 years but its cost is too high so I brought Canon printer. My personal experience with this printer print quality is very clear and even scanning quality also very good but reliability wise I'm not sure because first time I'm buying canon product. I previously had a canon printer which was very basic, and after many years of good service, it finally came to the end of its life. I researched the web and online stores and came across this Canon MP140 in the Argos catalogue.
The price was fantastic at only £29.99, and was a copier, scanner and printer in 1. It also came with black and colour ink cartridge. I found the reviews on argos very encouraging and decided to purchase for myself.
It was a bit bigger than I expected, but was easy to set up. The usb cable is not supplied, this is clearly marked in the product description and in the instructions, but I had one from my previous printer. I followed the instructions, set everything up, plugged it all in, installed the software and clipped in the cartridges. It took about 15 mins for everything to be up and running ...
