Getting a PC and printer is the start of a great new experience for most enthusiasts. You can print all your own letters and flyers etc. You can make your own Birthday cards and generally have a lot of fun with your new high tech equipment.
It can be hard enough trying to find your way through the techno jumble of a PC without having to bother which paper is best suited to your printer or your needs. There are so many brands of paper with different qualities that it can get to the point where you give up.
Generally speaking a good quality paper with a GSM of about 90 will give satisfactory result for most of your home projects. The GSM value assigned to paper is rated on firstly the grade of paper, then the surface of the paper and finally the weight of the paper. Generally speaking the higher the GSM value the better the paper.
Cannon have produced a paper which pretty much covers all of the major areas you require paper for. This HR-101 paper is a high resolution paper designed specifically to get the best out of you inkjet printer. The HR equates to the terminology of High Resolution which is determined by the capabilities of your printer and of course the paper used. Using this paper with a half decent printer will produce far better results than using the normal quality of paper used for basic purposes.
Removing the paper from it's plastic envelope, (which informs you that this paper has a GSM of 106 ) you can feel the difference in texture to ordinary paper, it feels smoother and less harsh. It almost has a satin feel to it and does not have that slight bumpiness that normal paper seems to have.
Printing in the same mode as you would normally print on normal paper a comparison can be made between the two. The type faces on the HR paper are sharper and crisper and stand our more on the page. Whereas in normal paper there can be slight imperfections seen when inspected close up these are vastly reduced by using this HR paper. So your job applications and resume looks neater sharper and indeed catch the eye more pleasingly all round.
These benefits are great, but when it comes to printing photos or pictures the quality difference can really be seen. The photos seem more life-like and the colours far more vivid. Having said this the best paper for printing photo is the paper specially designed for this purpose. The Cannon HR-101 paper will print great pictures but they will not look quite as good because the cannon paper does not have the gloss finish of the speciality paper.
It is a great paper to use for those special documents which you require to look particularly good. It does have a drawback though it is quite a bit more expensive than the normal packs of paper. 50 sheets will cost you in the region of about £5.99 which is about 10p a sheet. This is very expensive for ordinary print jobs so if you do decide to purchase this paper save it for those special projects.
I do think it is good value if you are trying to impress a prospective employer with a great looking sharp and clear CV. If he sees the effort you have put in I do believe he is more likely to look at your CV again whereas with normal paper it's just another bog standard CV. So in conclusion I would recommend this paper for someone who wants to make some kind of impression or quality statement
