Manufacturer's product description
The HV30 inherits the HV20's Canon HD Camera System - the unique combination of a genuine Canon HD Video Lens, a 2.96MP Full HD CMOS sensor and the DIGIC DV II processor. Designed and manufactured by Canon, these components integrate seamlessly to deliver superb HDV1080i (High Definition Video) images, recorded to tape. Focusing in HD can be difficult, since even slight errors are noticeable. The HV30 employs a unique hybrid system called Instant AF for extremely fast, accurate auto focusing - making it easier to capture pin sharp HD pictures. The HV30 features Canon's advanced 2.7” Multiangle Vivid LCD screen. Making it easier to monitor recording when shooting from particularly high or low angles, it has a wide 135-degree viewing angle. HCAR surface treatment ensures sharp images, a wider range of vibrant colors and reduced screen reflection.

...Since having purchased my IXUS 900ti in Janueray 2007 it has been back to the Canon service centre 5 TIMES for repair.
The first time it was returned to the Canon service centre it was lost it all together.
They replaced it but that is when all my troubles began!
Five times it has been back to Canon at Elstree!!!
Last night 20/10/07 it failed again for the 6th time and I now await the usual padded envelope from Canon to return it yet again.
The lastest fault on screen says "Lens Error"
In the last ten months Canon have had my camera longer than me and I dread to think how much it will cost to repair when the warrenty runs out in a couple months.
i WILL NEVER BY A CANON PRODUCT AGAIN....

canon Xl2 Review ofCanon XL2 camcorder - Mini DVby
vikkick
...this is a briiliant camera if you wish to become a professional camera man or woman. its the industry favourite and its lightweight and easily protable. It is easy to set up just white balance then point and shoot. It can be connected to a monitor and also external microphones and lights can be attached to it. i am a proffessional camera woman and would not be without my canon as it far excideds other competitors in terms of picture quality and ease of use. i have had my canon xl1 for 6 years and its still as good as the day i brought it i brought the canon xl2 last year and it is just the same high quality....

Advantages: Size, weight, bright back screen, simple controls Disadvantages: clunky, poor software, small cf card supplied, poor customer service support
...MID RANGE CAMERA, THAT HAS GOOD FEATURES FOR A FAIR PRICE. WHEN PURCHASED PARTS FROM THE BOX MISSING WHEN OPENED, AND TOOK CANON UK 3 MONTHS TO SHIP THE PARTS, AFTER CLAIMING THAT THE PART ( A BATERY COVER DID NOT EXIST).
CONTROLS SIMPLE TO USE, THOUGH BATTERY COVER AND CF COVER NOT WELL BUILT AND WILL FAIL WITH REGUALR USE.
GOOD DESIGN THAT HAS NOT DATED, THOUGH NOT TO THE STANDARD OF THE IXUS OR OLYMPUS MJU, WHICH ARE DATELESS.
OVERALL, A GOOD CAMERA THAT HAS TAKEN SOME GREAT SHOTS BUT HAS NOW BROKEN AFTER LESS THAN 1,000 SHOTS. THE BACKUP SERVICE OFFERED BY CANON FARCICAL AND AFTER HAVING SEVERAL CANON PRODUCTS WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN, THIS COMPARES DRAMITICALLY WITH OLYMPUS WHO HAVE PROVIDED SUPERB SERVICE....
