Advantages Beautifully packaged. Fine build quality.Good results

Disadvantages APS is an expensive format. Camera pricy.

I have been the proud owner of a Canon IXUS ever since launch - "Gadget Man" strikes again.

Its tough no-nonsense stainless steel design gets many admiring glances from photographers and others with an eye for design. Forgetting the looks, and fag-packet dimensions, it's also a damned fine little camera, with its zoom lens and pop-up flash, with an anti-red-eye option.

Its optional remote control is wafer-thin so be sure not to put it in the back pocket of your jeans, and then sit down.

APS itself is relatively expensive film type compared to 35mm, but at least the Canon's exposure system is capable of good results in a wide range of tricky light conditions, all without input from the user. The autofocus always seems spot-on so wasted shots are usually down to the user - they have yet to come up with a camera that can detect a cr** subject!!

Take this and a tiny Mini-DV camcorder on holiday, and you're ready for a full pictorial assault guaranteed to bore the pants off 'em back home, all without the obligatory gadget bag slung over one shoulder.

Oh, nearly forgot....for the fetishist, there's a leather case too.

I like the APS format - now that all print sizes cost the same on develop/print first time, I always take "Panoramic" and if need be get a classic reprint (if some details missing) or cut the picture down. It is like buying an enlargement of the middle of the picture. ~~~{:-)-{{:::::|||||<</html>
