is a must for every D-SLR photo enthusiast. A lens hood is primarily designed to avoid unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. The bayonet connection makes attaching the lens hood to your lens very simple. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

As a prime lens, 50mm fixed, f/1.8 it can be used in relatively low light without a flash since it lets so much light through to the camera... Shorter exposure times means your subject has less time to move. It also has a pretty shallow depth of field, so a perfectly focussed subject can have a wonderfully blurred background.
The tiny box this comes in contains the lens, front and rear caps, and a small leaflet on the lens properties (which I immediately threw in the bin).
It's a very simple lens to use - fit it to your camera, and select either Manual Focus (MF) or Auto Focus (AF) using the switch on the lens, and do whatever magic you do with your camera. Remember that composition of the photograph may be a little more work than with a zoomable telephoto lens - you might have to walk a bit, or get your subjects to move to compose the perfect shot!
I find this lens is particularly well suited for portrait work, although I have taken a few landscape shots with it too. I went out and bought this so I could take pictures at a family wedding. It was absolutely worth it, and I would happily recommend this lens to any Canon digital SLR camera user.

Advantages: Cheap, great image quality, fast (aperture) Disadvantages: Bad focus motor. Noisy and slow (focus). Plastic build
This lens is the first prime I ever bought. I was looking at primes because they produce better quality images and are faster than zooms, though less practical. I saw that 130$ lens (brand new!) ... I gave it a shot, saying to myself: -well I'll try this out and if I don't like primes or if this turns out to be a bad lens, i'll loose only 130$. I also believed at the time that 130$ brand new lenses cannot produce quality images. Nikon doesn't have cheap 50s..... Well I was wrong. This lens is one of my favourite. It doesn't produce image as nice as my 85mm (also reviewed here on ciao), but for the price, it is unbeatable. Apart from beeing extremely fast (compared to zooms anyway), it is SHARP (well it's a prime...) and I also noticed better contrast (at least a more pleasing effect to my eye) in my image (compared to my 17-40L). You ...
Advantages: Cheap, Sharp, small Disadvantages: Plastic build
Canons budget 50mm is a star of a lens. It?s cheap, well built (although plastic) and takes brilliant photos. What more could you ask from a lens?
I have used this lens now for just over a year now and it is one of my favourites. A versatile little number, that is always in my kit bag. I have used it for Band shots, where the aperture speed is essential, and it works brilliantly. For portraits where the depth of field adds so much and just as a basic lens for almost anything I can think of, and in all circumstances it is a cracking lens, that creates tack sharp images. The low 1.8 aperture is as sharp as can be and unlike some lenses it does not need stepping up to find the sweet spot.
My only gripe would be that its predecessor the mark 1 was a solid metal number and this mark 2 is only constructed from plastic, which that said, mine ...

Hello Reader,
I hope you're doing well, and I thought I'd get a nice lens review in here, as it's been quite desolate for a while. The lens that will be under the microscope will be the Canon EF 50mmf/1.8 II, which is a budget lens, although it with-holds a very nice surprise. So here goes...
Initial Impressions
Firstly, a new user to this lens will probably notice the amazingly compact size and weight of this lens, it's amazing really. I'm using it on my Canon 400D, and compared to the Kit lens, this thing is tiny! I'd say that this is a good factor for this lens, it's size and weight really complements the compact body of the 400D, and contrary to many peoples beliefs, the main lens body is surprisingly sturdy, at least at a parallel with the Kit lens. (18-55). There are quite a few reasons I bought this lens:
