Advantages Advantages light , autofocus is fast and sharp

    Disadvantages Disadvantages made of plastic

As a keen photography enthusiast i have decided to take a plunge and upgrade my old Sony a200 system (that i couldn’t get on with) to a canon 7d – the first mistake i have made was buying expensive body and not having the funds to buy a decent lens. I love photographing people so i thouht a prime lens will be the best choice for me (this is a fixed focal lens ) 50mm lens can basically mimic the perspective seen by the human eye . i felt that this will be the best choice .Also prime lens made me more creative , as i hadn’t had the opportunity to just zoom in if i wanted to.I had to move around ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, lightweight, sharp pictures

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy motor, lack of zoom

Anyone who has an interest in photography using SLR’s and particularly Canon bodies should take a look at this prime 50mm lens. Extremely inexpensive for what it is, it delivers sharp images and does exactly what it says on the tin. The feel of the lens is what gives the price away, and this is mainly due to the build quality which makes the lens feel plasticky and very light in comparison to the kit lens (18 – 55mm) which are double the price of this. The lens weighs just under 5 oz due to its compact size and material. The weight of this lens (apart from the sharper pictures) is just what I ... more

This is possibly the best lens I own for my Canon EOS 30D DSLR. (And for £65 what a bargain!) This is an incredibly light lens, and as I understand it, it is made entirely from plastic. It might feel a little too light, but believe me, it's a well constructed lens which yields fabulous results. It's also very cheap in comparison to other prime lenses, and I would consider it much better value for money than the 50mm f/1.4 As a prime lens, 50mm fixed, f/1.8 it can be used in relatively low light without a flash since it lets so much light through to the camera... Shorter exposure times means ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact, cheap, wide aperture range, promotes free thinking

Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited by fixed zoom if used indoors

Using a highly adjustable Canon DSLR on the fly is sometimes more mentally taxing than we'd like it to be. Sometimes we just wanna point, click and move on to the next without wondering if there's any tricks we're missing or settings we haven't optimised. This fixed 50mm lens has the profound effect of making your more opportunist pictures consistently well presented and useable, without putting the onus on you to do anything but shoot WYSIWYG style. The reason for that is simple; no zooming means no standing still. When fitted with such a stubby and manueverable lens, the SLR goes from being ... more

This is a review of the canon EF 50mm F1.8 mk2. Now I love photography, I have loved photography since I got my first camera 8 years ago. Since then I have probably spent far to much on this obsessive hobby. Buying the best lens, so I could naturally take the best photos, buying a professional flash gun that I have never used outside in the real world. So when I tell you I spent many thousand of pounds on this hobby it is easy to see where the money has gone. One day I was on Amazon looking to buy a new lens as you do. What I was looking for was a low light zoom lens I was ponding over the ... more
