This allowed me to purchase a multifunction machine for cheaper than replacing the cartridges on the ip1600! Unfortunately the cashback offer has now expired, but this machine is still available at an incredibly low price for the features.
Out of the box, the MP210 is averagely sized for a multifunction machine, coming in at round about 45cm x 35cm x 17cm (not counting the headspace it needs for the scanner lid to open).
The buttons on the front panel are somewhat lacking in description, meaning that you will almost certainly have to delve into the instruction manual to find out what they do. Essentially, there are buttons for colour and B&W copy, 'Stop', 'Scan', 'Settings', 'Fit to Page', 'Paper Choice' and number of copies.
The photocopying functionality is very useful when you want a copy without having to start up your computer. It works very well with black and white documents, whilst the relatively low quality scanner can be a bit hit-and-miss with colour.
The same applies to the scanner itself. At its best settings, scans are about acceptable but by no means high-quality. For the price, you can't really expect any better. The 'z-lid' hinge to allow books to be scanned is a good idea, but in reality it only really works for very thin novels.
The photo printing ability of this printer is incredible - it can produce a seemingly photo lab-quality borderless print in less than a minute. Of course, printing photos uses huge amounts of ink, and like usual with cheaper printers these days, the cartridges are unfeasibly expensive (around £30 to replace both, little less than the cost of the machine itself).
General printing is of fine quality in colour or black and white, though speed can sometimes be an issue (this machine sometimes takes an age to start up).
You have a choice of the PG-37 and CL-38 lower capacity cartridges, or the PG-40 and CL-41 higher capacity cartridges. Both are ridiculously expensive, so you'll probably want to restrict the amount of photo printing you do with this machine. Having the cartridges refilled is always an option, though I doubt the print quality for photos would be at the same level.
All in all, if you want a multifunction printer that carries out all the basics to an acceptable degree for an insanely low price, this is the machine for you. You have to start spending substantially more if you want a big increase in features and functionality.
Advantages: cheap, prints, copy, scans well. good all rounder Disadvantages: no usb, large size
...value machine and obviously the canon experience can be seen in this product. As I have two computers not networked i was pleased that this was light enough to move and did the plug and play printing without problems. Like most printer manufacturers, it is annoying that you need to provide your own usb cable but all the manufacturers seem to be at that now. It wasnt a problem for me as I had my old one, but keep your old cables is my advice as this ...

Advantages: Good value for money Disadvantages: None
I bought this printer about a month ago and I am very, very impressed with it. For the price, I can't complain about anything at all. Set up was easy and took no time at all. Print quality is excellent and very fast. Scanning and photocopying is easy, a quick and effortless process. It's a little larger than I expected it to be taking up quite a lot of desk space, but i's good looking and feels very solid. The paper loads from the back, which may ...

Advantages: Inexpensive, easy to use Disadvantages: Paper loads from the rear(not a problem for everyone)
I purchased this printer in December and it is simply the best printer I have had . It is extremely easy to use,all the navigation tools are easy to understand the quality of printing and scanning is excellent and the photographs are exceptional especially considering I paid less than fifty pounds for it. If there are any down sides to this printer it is that the paper loads from the back and where my printer is situated this makes it hard for me ...

Quick review of Canon MP210
All-in-one machines are usually more expensive than their simple printing counterparts and it's unusual to find one at under £50. Canon's new PIXMA MP210 is unusual, though, and offers all the copy and scanning advantages of its bigger siblings at a true budget price.
For a Japanese product, this Canon is surprisingly bulky, with a large grey and black case echoing the lacquer-box look of its immediate predecessors. A 100-sheet feed tray folds open and extends up at the back and an output tray folds down and pulls out from the front. ...

Quick review of Canon MP210
A very good all in one printer. The ink cartridges don't last long though - I only managed to print out about ten photos and image started to fade. Not a bad printer with the £20.00 cash back from Canon!!! I was hoping to use it with my Mac as well but I only want to use the Op system 9.2 and it don't like it. The fact that the cartridges have their own heads make the quality of the prints very good, although it makes them a lot dearer to buy. ...
