Having been an epson devotee when my printer gave in, i wanted a cheap and cheerful, yet decent all in one. I bought this with the benefit of a £20 cashback offer and so got an exceptional bargain. I was looking for everyday printing and this delivers that very well. Image wise i like the block shape and like the back loading as it keeps the paper in better shape than other basic models.
Print quality is great for its target market and it copies/scans just fine for my home/student needs. I find it quieter than the epson and just as speedy. The top set buttons are easy to see and read thankfully. I like the fact that it isnt a grey monstrousity like many printers though it isnt small by any means, so dont be fooled it takes up a large area. It ran with vista without a problem either which was great, absolutely plug and play.
I only had one problem and that was initial fit of cartridges which requires putting the printer on first, which worries me a little, but it is easy. The supplied cartridges seem great too for initial quantity and although the replacements arent the cheapest they are mid range. Noise wise i didnt notice it being particularly good or bad, just average. However I like the way it does the job its supposed to do well and not try and light up the room or play cds at the same time. If thats what you want from your printer dont look at this one but judge it for what it is, not what it isnt. For what it is I think its a great little machine
I have printed photos on ordinary paper as a trial only and was impressed by the quality though i would still prefer to use an online service for quality prints. The colours were pretty true to life though for such a value machine and obviously the canon experience can be seen in this product. As I have two computers not networked i was pleased that this was light enough to move and did the plug and play printing without problems.
Like most printer manufacturers, it is annoying that you need to provide your own usb cable but all the manufacturers seem to be at that now. It wasnt a problem for me as I had my old one, but keep your old cables is my advice as this is happening more and more and its really annoying to have to chase one when you unpack new hardware if you have chucked your old one.
In conclusion i would thing that for under £40 this is a no brainer for a cheap and cheerful machine, back-up or one for the kids.
