ugly in an industrial way but that was a popular style a few years back. It produced pretty good document and photo prints and the scanner was adequate for documents but not of a standard to copy photos. When coming to choose a new printer these were the characteristics I was interested in. It had to print to a high standard, the scanner needed to be better and I didn't want it to look like an ugly lump of corporate kit with attachments falling off all the time. Despite painfully setting up the fax functionality first time round I have never received or sent a fax using the HP, in fact I don't think I've faxed anything this century so that functionality was dispensable.
At a snifter under £100 the Canon Pixma MP600 packs a lot of quality into an attractively designed package. Ignoring any pointless fax functionality it concentrates ...

The Pixma MP600 is a very versatile printer: It really is a multi purpose printer, giving you plenty of useful functions.
The Operation Panel, which is found at the front of the printer and has a small 6.3cm TFT screen, enables you to quickly see what task you want to tackle and has an easy - scroll wheel which takes you from one action to the next ie. scan, print, maintenance etc. It opens with a home screen and as you turn the wheel, moves you into the next mode. Select Memory Card and the mode screen appears. When selecting the mode and pressing the function button, the instructions for the selected mode are displayed.

I bought a CanonMP600 in Dec 2006. It worked fine till Dec 2007 that's when I had to call Canon as error code 6A00 appeared on the screen and nothing could be done to solve it.
I had an engineer visit me three times trying to repair it. On the forth visit he said he had to take the printer away to his workshop to repair.
After three weeks printer was returned and engineer stated that he had to replace purge motor, paper roller and C.P.U.
Everything worked fine upto 6 months later and then error code '6000' appeared on the screen. No matter what I do I cannot clear it. Going on the web and asking about this error I find that it appears a common fault with the MP600. On getting in touch with Canon repair centre, they quoted me £79 plus V.A.T. just for a call out. Then parts and labour on top of that.
I can see now why they call us ...
