Camcorder - Optical Zoom: 20 - Digital Zoom: 100 - Weight: 1.1 kg - Flash memory: SD Memory Card - Supported Media Type: Mini DV - Viewfinder: without Viewfinder
Advantages: Cheap, robust, good picture quality, large display screen Disadvantages: thirsty on batteries
...a shame.
The zoom takes some getting used to, the A460 has cut down on buttons, less is more maybe. So nearly all functions work from the central thumb controller then a set and menu button.
It takes a SD card, you get a 16mb with it which stores about 10 photos. Ugrade the card immediatley, pay about £10 for a 2GB one. I bought mine from Play.com.
The photo quality is excellent, with crisp images, on tft monitor they are superb.
The camera also comes with an easy print funtion conecting up to a canon photo printer however I cannot comment on this.
Get some good rechargable batteries 2000 MhA at least, it is quiet thirsty.
Over all I am happy with mine and would recommend it to others....

Advantages: lots of camcorder for your money, good external outputs, snug fitting camcorder. Disadvantages: Casing not very robust, battery life could be longer, some motor noise on low recordings.
...with printed images the size of 127 x 178
being attainable.
There are manuals for the camera and also the supplied software. They are all well laid out and easy enough to understand although I did notice that when loading the software I needed to improvise to get the correct settings but there was no difficulty.
Using the camcorder with MSN Messenger proved painless enough and with the supplied remote control it was very user friendly.
The supplied diffuser will be a boon as the normal LED is somewhat blinding to those in front of the lens.
The quality of the casing is not too good and mine has a couple of scratches already, it would be wise to buy a case with your purchase.
Another thing that may put off prospective purchasers is the lack of an accessory shoe. It is possible however to purchase an optional attachment from Canon...

Advantages: low price, well built, built in flash, great pictures, manual and LCD viewfinder Disadvantages: batteries don't last that long
...of the pictures that will be produced. The flash is also quite strong but one hell of a drain on the batteries which even in bright light and without flash usage drain very quickly. I would suggest 2 sets of rechargeable batteries for use with the A460.
The pictures produced by the A460 are fantastic and as good in terms of clarity and detail as any other digital camera pictures I have seen. They are easy to upload onto the computer as well thanks to the easy user interface.
I have a large amount of affection now for the Canon PowerShot A460 and recommend that everyone looking for a decent digital camera without a £150+ budget gives this a serious look. Once you've had your hands on this beast, you won't want anything else....
