Advantages: Cheaper than other models Disadvantages: A bit bigger and replacement batteries have to be specially ordered.

Bush Model VCC-200, VHS-C type
I bought this camcorder from Kays catalogue as it was the cheapest model at £300. Along with the shop and save that had mounted up, I only ended up paying £250.

Bush Model VCC-200, VHS-C type
I bought this camcorder from Kays catalogue as it was the cheapest model at £300. Along with the shop and save that had mounted up, I only ended up paying £250.
For a cheap make it is excellent quality and has loads of extra features. Along with the camcorder there was also a battery charger, the battery itself, which has 50 minutes recording time when fully charged, a DC cord, so that you can still record when the battery is totally flat and an audio/video scart lead for playing and editing tapes from the camcorder to the tv. Also included was a padded camcorder case, adjustable shoulder strap, 1 VHS-C tape with 50 minutes recording space, tape adapter that you just put the tape into then put it straight into the video and a tripod.
Camcorder Functions List:
10x zoom - Enables you to zoom in and out up to 10 times. Date selector - You have to manually put in the date, but you can choose whether or not to have it displayed. Adjustable viewfinder - Rotates 180 degrees for easier use. Battery low indicator - Battery indicator flashes in viewfinder a few minutes before the battery goes completely flat. Scene mode adjuster - This button lets you alter the scene in the viewfinder according to the conditions you are recording under, such as night time or bright sunshine. Backlight - You press this when the subject you are recording is in front of a bright window or in very bright sunlight. Playback - So you can play back what you`ve recorded without plugging it in to the tv.
This is a little bit bigger than the more expensive slimline versions on the market, but it is still small enough to be able to handle easily and has an adjustable hand strap on the side.
Additional tapes are available at Argos at £15 for 5.
Universal batteries are now easily available than can be used on all the well known makes, but because this is a bottom of the range model you have to order a replacement battery direct from the supplier.
I had mine now for 18 months without any problems and found it very easy to use after reading the detailed instructions that came with it.
Advantages: Small, light and feature packed Disadvantages: Could do with a connection for an exterior mic.
This fully featured digital camcorder has to be one of the best bargains around. Boasting a 48x digital zoom and Progressive scan CCD along with Red/Green/Blue primary colour filter this camera outperforms many cameras costing half as much again. Added to that is its impressive list of features such as the digital effects, photo mode and fold out full colour screen. However, the three things that really impressed me with this particular model were: ... ...software trick, but a true stabiliser using a gyrosope-type device (I can't be sure of the technical details!). It is very good and helps to produce a watchable picture even when running. 2. The camcorder has a Canon lens. Obvious really, but then it is one of the most important parts of the unit and Canon lenses have always been superior. 3. It's build quality is superb.
I moved over from the old analogue cameras last year and I won't be going ...

Advantages: Small, affordable, Canon build quality Disadvantages: Struggles in low light, sound quality not brilliant
...small, light and feature packed. The picture quality is excellent under most circumstances but at low light the picture tends to go a bit grainy to handle the lack of light. I've used Sony Hi-8 cameras with 0 Lux ratings which handle the low light much better, I believe the Sony DV cameras also have 0 Lux ratings, but then they are much more expensive cameras. There are plenty of features to produce special effects or still images. But if you're ... ...breath on it when recording. Also the sound can seem distant on playback.
Don't underestimate the value of OPTICAL image stabilising, it's superb!. I've tested the camera with this switched off, and the difference is huge.
The standard battery will only last about an hour, so you'll need a spare.
All in all this camera is excellent value. I paid £750 from Jessops and have been very pleased with Canon quality. ...
