For starters this camera has a 20X optical zoom giving the user much more flexibility on the type of recordings that can be taken. This is a much larger zoom than most camcorders in this range, but still keeping a compact size. This model also has an SD card slot so still shots can be taken and saved directly onto the memory card. This also makes it much easier when downloading them to a pc. The 830 also has a DV in connection which lets video from a pc be transferred to the camcorder. It also has the very rare facility of an AV input. This lets you transfer video from any other source e.g. Analogue camcorder, VRC, or even a smaller camera used for mounting on motorcycle helmets, straight onto the mini DV cassette. This feature is very uncommon and is pleasing to see it on such a low priced model (around £300).
A complete novice could use this camera, with big, obvious buttons and switches this is very simple to use. With pre-program modes including landscape, portrait, sport and night mode this camera can be set-up for different situations at a touch of a button. It also comes with a wide selection of digital effects such as black & white and mosaic effect recording.
This camcorder may not be the smallest on the market but it has enough features to compete with the best. Once again, an outstanding piece of kit from canon.

Indeed the MV830i's feature set reads like that of a pricier camcorder. For starters, it's capable of true 16:9 recording, meaning it uses the full width of the sensor--no skewing or interpolating. It also features a 20x optical zoom, an analog-to-digital converter, a handful of autoexposure scene modes, and the usual hodgepodge of digital effects. The only real letdown is Night mode, which effectively illuminates dim environments but requires both ...

With its 20x optical zoom, DiGIC DV and 'Easy' mode, the MV830i combines quality with point-and-shoot simplicity integrating 16: 9 widescreen mode, image stabilization and digital still capability. For their design of the MV830i, Canon's engineers held true to the maxim that a technology is only worth having when it is both simple and useful. It has resulted in a camcorder that is rich in features yet delightfully simple to use. Everything is done to make shooting great video as easy as possible. Within seconds of turning on your new camcorder you can capture quality footage. Just flick the 'Easy' switch and you are able to shoot in fully automatic mode. The MV830i has a powerful 20x optical zoom whose exceptional contrast and clarity take you to the heart of the action. A razor sharp 1/6" CCD delivers high fidelity images even at the strongest magnifications. Canon's unique DiGIC DV processor translates what the camcorder 'sees' into warm, subtle tones that appear natural and vibrant. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) keeps your footage steady and makes hand held shooting rock-solid. A mechanical shutter ensures blur-free stills that are fit to be printed as quality photos. You won't even need a PC to create your prints. Simply connect to any PictBridge compatible printer and select the images you want to produce. PC connectivity is fully supported.
