This is a high quality product form Cannon. It is seriously good. It is the fastest inkjet I have seen for text and composite (text & graphics) documents. However it still cant hold a candle to a decent laser printer if your after fast printing, other than the price.
This isnt really a printer designed for speed though. And whilst it does do fine printing fast documents, its photo printing where this printer really shows its worth. It can do seriously excellent full colour A4 borderless photo prints that are impossible to differentiate from a photo lab equivilant. The printing speed does slow down considerably when you put it into really high quality, but that is to be expected, and is (in my eyes) a reasonable exchange.
Mechanically this is a well designed machine. It is simple to use, with two paper feeds, a cassette that juts out the bottom, and a top loading tray. The lid does need to be opened when printing, somewhat removing its rather nice design.
Feature wise this is a good printer. It supports pictbridge, allowing many digital cameras to be connected, and print 6x4 photos without the computer. However to print anything else, any other size, or different quality, then the pc is needed.
The set of programs that come with the printer are standard to say the least. They leave a lot to be desired, but you are buying a piece of hardware. You do need a decent photo-editing suite to go with it.
It takes four different print cartidges, so a new set of inks can end up a little pricey, but then it is not much worse than any other inkjet printer out there. The black is twice the size of the other three colour cartridges, so it should last longer, unless you do a lot of black and white prints.
Overall this is an excellent quality and good value for monney all round printer. Perfect for home use. It can do fast, standard quality text and composite immages, and seamless photo prints too. Perfect for home use. And good value for monney too.
