So what's it good for you ask? well here we go;
General printing of Documents:
Its fast, quality is always good and I've never had a jam or malfunction and I do a lot of printing I usually get through about 500 sheets a month. Therese 2 paper sources which is useful I usually have the bottom tray loaded with paper, although it could do with being able to hole a bit more paper, and i leave the top feeding thing (dunno what the technical name is, slide thingy i recon) folded down which looks nicer and also have it ready set to accept 4x6" photo paper, so there's no having to swap over plain and photo paper, which saves a few seconds.
Photo Printing:
So far I've only printed photos on 4x6" photo paper but I'm guessing the quality would be the same no matter the size of the paper. I'm using Kodak premium ultra glossy 4x6" photo paper and although the name wouldn't suggest it was the cheapest Kodak photo paper WH Smiths had for sale (I think the other one was super amazing ultra glossy mega photo paper pro, or something along those lines). The quality of the print is very nice you can tell its been printed at home but this is mainly because it's not as glossy as they would like you to believe. I've seen that some printers leave printing lines (what i mean by this is a regular pattern of lines or tracks where it looks as though the photo has been printed in blocks and you can see the joins) on the photo, but there's none here its a nice even smooth picture. I'm sure there are better photo printers out there but i would be very surprised if there was one for the same price
CD/DVD Printing:
This would have to be my favourite aspect of this printer, there's nothing worse than having a boring cd/dvd you've written labelled with nothing more than a permanent marker or worse those useless sticker labels which never print right and you can always see that they've been slapped on. Well no more as long as you've got yourself a printable CD/DVD you just pop you disc into the provided caddy and put that into the printer and a few seconds later you have yourself a lovely printed disc. Its really quick and the quality is very good almost on par with the photo printing. The provided CD/DVD printing software is basic and very easy to use. I've used both normal white DVDs and the new silver face printable DVDs and they both come out very nice, white give better clarity where silver give a nice holographic effect. I'm not too sure if the printer prints full face discs but if it doesn't it dose get close (I know this because i accidentally changed the settings for the inner print margin instead of outer and printed on the plastic bit in the middle of a non full faced disc)
Direct printing USB connection:
I have only done 1 direct print so far and that was from my phone (nokia n80) and although it was just as quick and the quality was good you could tell the difference in quality, whether this was because of the printing software on my phone, the quality of the phone picture (should be good 3MP but that doesn't necessarily mean good i suppose) or just that it prints better from a PC I don't know, but as your most likely going to want you photos on your PC anyway I suggest just printing from there. Its nice to have the option there but I don't think I'm ever going to use it again.
Ink:
The printer comes complete with 5 separate ink cartridges, 2 blacks and 3 colour. The lifespan of the Ink is quite acceptable - after 2 months of heavy printing most are still nearly full, but the bigger black has less than half left. Having separate colour cartridges is definitely a plus, I always seem to run out of blue but have plenty of the others left, so saves there. The cartridges are easy to install and reasonable priced at around £10 each depending on where you buy them
Conclusion: This printer is ideal for anyone wanting a reliable printer for generic printing at a reasonable price. Also the quality of the photo and DVD prints are more than acceptable and if you require anything of higher quality i would expect you would have to pay a lot more money. The addition of a screen would be nice to display printer levels, and more functionality on the direct printing but as I've said this is a cheap printer so you can't expect it to have everything.
Keeping in mind that this is a cheap Printer i have to award it with the excellent rating.
Advantages: Quiet, fast, square, a paper tray plus a feeder and excellent prints. Disadvantages: Slightly bigger than others of the same price range.
My previous printer was a Canon i850 - not a bad little printer - but it gave up recently so I started shopping around for a replacement. I half-heartedly looked at other makes, but the price and quality of the Canon printers, together with the price of their cartridges, always drew me back to them. They have a large range that I considered - the IP4200 was the cheapest at around £60, then the IP5200 and I also considered the MP500, an "all-in-one" ... ...with 5 sheets of 6x4 Canon Photo Paper Pro, so you can get started and I have to say, I wasn't greatly impressed when I printed out a couple of photos that I'd taken with my Kodak 3.1MP camera. But I did wonder if it was the actual photos that were the problem, rather than the printer, so I downloaded a high quality, high resolution photo off the internet and printed that out. WOW!!!! I have to say, it was just a picture of a cat, but I cannot stop ...

...one. We came across the Canon PIXMA iP4200 because it looked good and the price wasn't that bad either (about less than £70).
At first glance, it has a sleek and neat design, plus, it isn't all too bulky either unlike our other one which is huge- for the canon, when you don't need to use it, you can simply shut the lids down which is good because it makes it more compact and prevents any dust and dirt from getting in and damaging the thing so the ... ...but how well does the Canon PIXMA iP4200 perform? I only have one word : excellent. The resolution of the prints just blew me away along with the speed. The quality of the printing is fantastic therefore this printer definetly deserves 5 stars from me.
Also it doesn't go through all that 'printer warming up' thing that takes ages, it's suprisingly fast. Nevertheless, it is a slightly noisy (slightly, not very) but that hardly bothers me as long ...

Advantages: Prints well Disadvantages: Chipped cartridges a nightmare.
Ok. This is another thing I don't actually own. It's the main computer I work on at school and I sort of know what I'm talking about because I'm in charge of IT. So I err....bought it.
This'll be a brief one.
It's good. It prints well, has an easy set-up and came with functional, if not spectacularly exciting software. It has NASTY chipped cartridges which make cheap running a pain! It's quite chunky - you could almost have put a scanner on it.
... ...600x600 black. The prints are crisp, clean and colour matching was good. Possibly the best of the 6 or so models I am familiar with. Set-up is a straight forward affair but I would expect no different from a printer manufacturer today. If they complicate a simple enough process then they're serious fools. This one's fine. Connecting it to the netwok as a network printer has also been problem free.
The ports are standard USB and a fairly short power ...

This Canon Pixma iP4200 is the best printer I have ever owned, I have had Lexmark, HP and Epson printers in the past and been disappointed with them all for various reasons, when my last printer died, I went for this one, partly because of good reviews and partly for a new brand.
The iP4200's silver plastic case feels solid and looks less boxy than other recent Canon models.

These new ink cartridges come in Cyan, Magenta and Yellow as well as Black and are for the CanonPixmaiP4200 and other similar printers.
There is absolutely no difference apart from the colour of the ink in them.
Where to buy

I get mine from Maxsave.com @ £7.07 inc P&P

You effectively get a small clear plastic box 1cm x 4cm x 7cm. This box is split into two compartments -
Towards the back of the box and taking up about 2/3 of the length is a sponge. There is a hole in the base of the box under the sponge where the ink passes to the print head. To make the box ready for insertion into your printer you simply snap off an orange plug to open the hole. and push the unit ...

come to buy electronic goods (our washing machine, fridge-freezer, video and my digital camera were all chosen this way and I?ve had no regrets). From what I can remember (this was before Christmas) in the latest printer test Which? had reviewed the CanonPixmaiP4200 and this was a best buy, so I decided to buy it, but in my search for the cheapest price I saw that it had been replaced by the CanonPixmaiP4300, which on comparison was pretty much the same, and I thought surely it can only be better, and it was actually cheaper than the iP4200 that it was replacing. I bought the CanonPixmaiP4300 from PC World at the beginning of January 07 for about £58, but its RRP is £79. You can currently buy this printer for £59.59 from amazon.co.uk.
