SETUP ********* Using the quick start guide, this has a step by step guide with diagrams to help you set the printer up. Aslong as you start at the beginning and read the instructions properly you should have no problems. I found it very straight forward. The print head has to be installed first then the ink cartridges into the
print head. The ink cartridges are colour coded so you cannot put the wrong cartridge in the wrong slot on the print head. 150 sheets of 64 gsm A4 paper can be loaded into the sheet feeder. Next you have to install the printer drivers onto the computer. This is very easy just load the setup software and user guide CD. Then just follow the onscreen instructions, i have Windows XP and had no hiccups with my installation. There are also printer drivers for Macintosh but cannot comment on these as i dont have one. Your printer should now be installed onto your computer.
PAPER ********* The paper can be loaded in the sheet feeder at the top of the printer and also in a cassette at the bottom of the printer. I use the cassette for my plain paper as it is enclosed and looks tidy so you can leave paper in at all times. Printing can be done on numerous media types including plain paper, photo paper pro, photo paper plus glossy, photo paper plus double sided, matte photo paper, gossy photo paper and hi resolution paper. You can also print on other media types including, printable disc, t-shirt transfer, transparencys and envelopes. Paper size includes A4, 4x6in, 5x7in, CD-R and credit card.
PRINTING ************ The quick start guide shows you the basic operations for printing. It shows you how to print what the basic settings are, like media type, paper source, print quality and preview before printing to name a few. There is a help tab on the printer preferances that will give you a more detailed explanation of each function. Again it also shows you how to do it all in Macintosh. Printing can be done lanscape, portrait and with borderless printing. Print quality can be changed to high, standard, draft or custom Colour adjustment is auto or manual or you can print in Grayscale. All printing can be previewed before printing. Text printing is fast and the text looks black. Photo printing is superb and this is what the printer was purchaced for. Printing has been done on cheap, epson and canon paper all with excellent results. Colours and skin tones are true to life, detail is unbelievable and colours have never run into each other. Canon Pixma printers must be developers worst nightmare. CD-R printing is so easy and the finished article is very professional. Before this i used a system called press-it which was quite fiddely and sometimes stopped the cd-r from playing, this has never happened with direct printing. If you have a pictbridge compatable digital camera you can connect the camera to the printer with a usb cable. Then print direct from the camera so if you dont have a computer no problem.
SOFTWARE ************** CD-R printing is easy by using the free CD-R Label Print that came packaged with the printer. Open the program up add the picture you want on your CD-R adjust the size so it fits the CD then set your printer setting and print. One problem with this program is you cannot manipulate a square photo into a round photo to fit onto the CD-R, this was very handy when i used it with the Press-It program. Text can be added and there is a help guide if you cannot do something.
PhotoRecord is another program you get.PhotoRecord helps you quickly arrange digital photos to produce an attractive photo album. You can easily produce and print your own personalized photo album in next to no time. You add photos into the program, there are templates for differant occasions like travel, birthdays and weddings. Text can be added and freely moved around to place where you want the text, in any text font or colour.
The last program you get is Easy Photoprint. Open the program select an image or muliple images. Step 2 choose the paper or media you want to print on. This includes A4, 6x4in, 5x7in and CD-R and a few more. It also asks what quality paper you are using, plain, photo ect. Step 3 is the layout/print. You can have 1 photo or multiple photos on 1 sheet of paper in differant formats. All steps have a preview of your work in progress. When you are happy with what you have got just press print, then wait for the finished product. You will be pleased with how simple this program is but how good the finihed result looks.
PRICE ******** Printer cost about Ł125 Cartridge costs Ł10 for black, Ł9 for each colour. Compatible cartridges are about Ł3 for each colour.
CUSTOMER SUPPORT *************************** No problems so never had to use them. Printer has a standard 12 months warranty.
CONCLUSION ***************** This is the best printer i have had in looks and printing quality. The software is basic but the results you get are very good. The manual guides are very easy to follow and the user guide on the computer helps you out if you want to use all the manual settings. Great review. I have the IP2000 - it sounds like this is very similar, but a bit more advanced. I've been very pleased with mine.

Can't rerate. This is a good solid review. Very interested in the CD printing. As you said the "press-it" and "Neato" systems can be a pain - and more expensive too!
