I've been looking for a new printer to use when out in the field for a while and have always had a soft-spot for Canon. Typically they make very good equipment and usually at a competitive price and the IP90 is no exception to this. Print quality on photographic media is outstanding and the unit itself is very well constructed and does not feel as if it will fall apart anytime soon.
Whilst generally the printer is very sound I have some reservations
- it weighs almost as much as my laptop and carrying both items in the same bag or over any distance leaves my shoulder feeling painful.
- it is rated as having quite a high print speed 14-16ppm but this is at the basic quality settings and the quality really is 'basic' - it is perfectly acceptable for draft copies, etc. but I would never use it or give it to a client - the better quality (High) are much more acceptable but reduces the print speed to about 2ppm for A4 colour - not bad but also not brilliant.
- My only other quibble is the length of cartridge life - the stock cartridges that came with the printer seemed to disappear in a number of days. These have been replaced but seem to be used exceedingly quickly - in fairness this could be the charts and graphs I print but I can easily imagine that the printing costs of this will far exceed my i9100.
In summary, if you need a high quality printer that can be used on the road then this will certainly fit the bill but it may not be the cheapest or fastest.
Hi and welcome to Ciao - a good start but an idea on the cost of this printer (plus the cost of replacement cartridges) would be a useful addition to your review. Lexy
