I bought this printer because my son thought that he could use my IP4300 printer better than me. So after looking around I saw this printer in a discount shop. After reading the box, it was the one I wanted.
So home we got. Taking it out of the box I was pleased with the packing. Well supported. It never felt very heavy but that is because it is almost all plastic. This was the first thing that made me feel I had not bought a good printer. I did read on the box that it only had two print cartridges. One black and a tri colour. Now this does not really make for good photos.
Anyway, out onto the desktop and looking at it, you would say it looked quality, and I suppose it does. Right in the middle there is a little screen so you can view photos from a memory card. These are put into the card slots that are placed behind a little cover at the bottom right of the unit. If you have big hands then you might struggle to fit the card into the slots.
To the bottom right there is a USB slot where you can put a bluetoothe dongle so printing from your camara phone will work and not having to switch the computer on to do it is a bonus.
Around the screen you have the menu buttons and ones for scan copying and printer menu to adjust for different paper.
At the rear of the unit there is the paper loader. On mine the support bar kept falling down and the paper would fold backover causing problems feeding it in. The front support for printed paper is two short and did not support the printed material so much of it went onto the floor.
I mentioned earlier about the cartridges. With the tri colour one it is almost impossible to get a good photo. I never got a good one and tried to print over 50 different photos. All of them were left looking like everyone had freckels and skin tones were next to useless. Definatly not ones you want to show anyone. Even when put through a cleaning cycle there was no difference. On the bright side, when you printed text using only black ink it was crisp and very clear right down to no 8 font size.
Apart from the nice looking screen area it has nothing to excite me. After using the machine for a week I have took it back to the shop, why, because of the banding, lack of colour depth and a sqeek on the slide rail when the cartridges are going across. So not really impressed with this one. I would stay clear and pay more for a good printer. Canon has failed on this one I think.
