I have had this older model camera for several months now, and although I have tried others, I still wouldnt swop it! Although bulky in comparisom to more modern designs (110 X 71 X 38mm), the picture quality is surprisingly good for a 1.3 mega pixel camera. Even when pictures are blown up, I still get a crisp, true colour picture that I find better than some 4 mega pixel cameras. It requires 4 standard AA batteries, although it does eat these pretty fast, but most cameras do, and although it isnt the most attractive of designs, its easy features make up for it. The camera has specific settings for close ups, distances and even better, makes panoramic shots a singe by leaving a small section of the previous picture for you to line your second second or third shot up with. This means you can get 360 degree views that line up perfectly on the computer to create a fab long panoramic shot of the view on holiday!
The 3x optical zoom is plenty for a beginner, but probably not enough if you want to get serious with digital photography. I does also have a 2x digital zoom on top of this but I found that the photo quality was reduced greatly with this so I rarely used it. Other features include a manual focus, exposure and white balance settings, auto flash, self-timer and red-eye reduction. The software it comes with is very good, although I had problems with the drivers to download the pictures, but this is easily solved by dumping the usb cable it comes with, and buying a cheap card reader (approx £20).
Its a fairly heavy camera at 0.36kg (including memory card and batteries), but I never found this a problem, and somehow felt it was more sturdy and less likely to be left behind at a party! There are plenty of accessories including a clear case so that you can use the camera underwater, useful if you are worried about dropping it in the swimming sea! To be honest, more zoom and a night time feature wouldn't go amiss, but the good quality well makes up for this and it is really surprising the fab picture quality! The best bit is the price! Due to it being an old model, you can pick this camera up for approx £80 which is a bargain, and accessories are equally as cheap and easily found on a well known internet auction site!
