Canon Power Shot A200 Digital Camera
Introduction
I bought this camera on December 2004 when I was in Malaysia and the price of that camera was quite cheap. It is around RM700 that equal to £100 at that time. It comes with a USB cable, Manual Book, 1 year manufacturer warranty and also one CD ROM Disc that contain the driver of the camera and also the software for the image editing.
Camera Specification
Canon Power Shot A200 has a 2.0 mega pixel resolution with a CCD Sensor Type. It also has 3 main picture resolutions.
1. Minimum Resolution = 640 x 480 2. Medium Resolution = 1024 x 768 3. Maximum Resolution = 1600 x 1200
This camera also has an auto focus function with AiAF TTL 3-point types, 4x digital zoom, USB interface port, Flash Card Compatible, Timing Function, Macro Function and builds in flash. Other than that, it has a movie recording function that can record a movie without sound for about 9 to 26 second depending on the memory installed in the camera. There are also 3 selection of the picture quality
1. Super Fine 2. Fine 3. Normal
Advantages
Picture Quality Although if you select the 'Normal' selection for the picture quality, the image produced was still excellent especially when taken during daytime.
Direct Print Capabilities This can make printing process easier. There is no need to use the computer to transfer the entire picture and print it into a hardcopy. You can connect the camera with photo printer using a USB cable. But you have to use a specific printer for this camera. But most of the photo printers that are from Canon are able to do the job without any problem. Just plug and print. Easy.
User Friendly The programs that had been installed in this camera are easy to use and easy to understand. There is no complicated function in this camera and the manual guide will make the camera easier to use.
Macro Function This function can make your picture look stunning! I always use it to focus the small object very near from the lenses and the result was amazing.
Software There are 2 main software included with this camera, the software are Canon Photo Record and Canon Utilities. In Canon Utilities, there are several software such as Photo Stitch 3.1, Remote Capture, and Zoom Browser EX. The best software that I always use for my picture is the Photo Stitch 3.1. You can combine multi images into one image and I always combine the scenery picture and the result was very nice.
Disadvantages
Size The camera was a bit big for my pocket and honestly it really bulky.
Battery When the first time I use this camera, I was really disappointed with the battery lifetime. I was able to use the camera to take about 10 photos and then the camera 'dead'. Although I am using a high performance alkaline battery, it still not too good for the camera. It will be worst if you using the camera for taking movies. So I would suggest you to use a rechargeable Ni-MH battery. Try to use the Ni-MH battery that can store up to 2100mAh. The Higher the 'mAh', the longer the camera performance.
Flash The flash was not too good. This camera can't give an optimum result in the dark even with the help of the flash. The flash in the camera is too small and if you still want to use it at night, I suggest you to take the picture behind the light source, so that the light can help the camera to capture brighter image with the help of the flash. Or, you still can take the picture at night or in dark, but make sure the distance between the camera and the image that you want to take is not more that 2 metres. But the most useful suggestion is just use the camera during daytime. The difference is so obvious.
Zoom The digital zoom of this camera is not too good in terms of picture quality compared by optical zoom. The image will look blurred when the camera start to focused in zoom mode. Unfortunately, there is no optical zoom in this camera.
Conclusion
Overall, Canon Power Shot A200 is a great camera with so many functions that easy to understand. The camera was so affordable to all kind of people, especially students and teenager. Canon is well known as the best camera brand ever and I suggest you to use it. As for me, I still using this great camera and until now, there is still no problem happened and I am really satisfied with this camera.
I was given a Canon Powershot A200 for Hanukah, by my uncultured father - who I feared too inexperienced in Technology to have chosen wisely. I thanked him hugely, whilst acknowledging the camera’s disappointing lack of case, and the fact that it only just fitted in my pocket, and would be too bulky to carry around in such a manner. Getting to grips with the Camera, I realised that its function and quality was rather impressive, despite superficial ... ...it out!
The Canon Powershot A200 can be bought for approximately £145, which I think is a great price for a product of this standard. Any more than this and you’re just paying for a slender, snug-in-your-pocket sort of camera. But hey, there’s nothing wrong with spoiling yourself! ...

Advantages: Good quality- easy to use - hey! its a digital camera!!! Disadvantages: bulky - difficult software for downloading photos to computer - battery life
Not having any idea what i was looking for when i bought my first digital camera - i went with a bit of what i wanted and a bit of what the storekeeper told me i should have... and i am quite glad i did!
It is a good beginners camer - with good zoom, short movies, high resolution (at the time of purchase that is!!! By now it is probably outdated by competitors! lol) - easy to use interface - automatic everything! - and some cool in camera editing ... ...downsides are that it is quite a large camera which doesnt just fit into your pocket! I find it annoying to have to carry a bag around to protect it everywher i take it which i find restricts my use of it to some degree... Also the short video recording capability is not of great quality and with no sound (unless you buy an attachment...) but i have used it very often so there you go! However it is quite inconsistent in the length of movies it takes ...

Designed as an easy-to-use, entry-level digital camera, the new PowerShot A200 combines a 2-megapixel CCD chip with several advanced camera features to create extremely high-quality digital photos at a very affordable price. In addition, the new camera can produce high-quality 4x6-inch prints by connecting directly to Canon's new CP-100 dye-sublimation printer. The new A200 can also be used as an underwater camera when used with its optional waterproof housing to depths of up to 100 feet. The PowerShot A200 is a 2.0 megapixel, single-focal length autofocus camera incorporating several advanced camera features including Movie mode, Photo Effect Mode, Direct Print capabilities using Canon's new CP-100 dye-sub printer, and magnified playback up to 10x for precise image confirmation. It is designed to make digital photography as easy as point-and-shoot. From its bright silver exterior to the clearly marked control buttons, the A200 is the perfect camera for consumers making the transition from analog to digital. Adding to the simplicity of taking great photographs is the camera's Direct Print capability with Canon's new CP-100 and existing CP-10 photo printers. Now first-time users of digital cameras can make high-quality color prints without the complexity of a computer. The PowerShot A200 also incorporates a number of high-end features including the popular Photo Effects mode originally introduced in the highly advanced PowerShot G2 digital camera. A low sharpening mode has been added to the Vivid, Neutral, Sepia and Black-and-White modes for a total of five separate effects for greater creativity. The shutter speed range of the A200 is among the widest in its class with a maximum shutter speed of 1/2000 second. Combining this speed with the lens's f/5.6 minimum aperture setting makes the A200 ideal for daylight photography and fast-moving objects. Alternatively, when the one-second slow shutter speed is combined with the camera's f/2.8 maximum aperture and optional ISO 400 setting, photos taken in low light conditions can be captured easily and with confidence. The PowerShot A200 can record movies in QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) and Q2VGA (160 x 120 pixels) at 20 frames per second. Up to 9 seconds of continuous recording is possible in QVGA, and up to 26 seconds in the Q2VGA format. Additional features offered with the PowerShot A200 include 3-point AiAF focusing; magnified playback to easily confirm critical focus, high-speed continuous shooting at 2fps, 4.0X digital zoom capability, built-in flash with four flash modes and RGB primary color filters. The A200 uses two AA-size batteries and is compatible with CompactFlash Type I removable media.
