Not having any idea what i was looking for when i bought my first digital camera - i went with a bit of what i wanted and a bit of what the storekeeper told me i should have... and i am quite glad i did!
It is a good beginners camer - with good zoom, short movies, high resolution (at the time of purchase that is!!! By now it is probably outdated by competitors! lol) - easy to use interface - automatic everything! - and some cool in camera editing options like black and white - colourised, etc...
The downsides are that it is quite a large camera which doesnt just fit into your pocket! I find it annoying to have to carry a bag around to protect it everywher i take it which i find restricts my use of it to some degree... Also the short video recording capability is not of great quality and with no sound (unless you buy an attachment...) but i have used it very often so there you go! However it is quite inconsistent in the length of movies it takes - anywhere from 10 to 40 seconds!!!
This brings up the point of when the camera gets loaded with pictures, its effectiveness drops - movies are short, focusing takes ages, response time is slow etc! Not good on a holiday!
Standard batteries dont last more than an hour or two in some cases (especially on movie mode!) buti use rechargable digital camera batteries which last plenty long enough - all day with lots of use (yes it came on holidays with me!)
The camera has a slideshow type function where you can go through and delete any unwanted photos on camera - this too slows down when the memory card gets full. I find the software provided with the camera to be not great at all. It is ok for just dumping the photos into a folder but naming them becomes an epic mission!!!
It was bought for around 650 Aussie dollars but no doubt the price has gone down!!! ( i have had it for two years with little incident!) Some parts are a little flimsy and i have had to do a little repair to the battery flap...nothing major.
A great camera overall though and great for first timers!
