Advantages: Price - quality - ease of use Disadvantages: Lack of an optical zoom
...a long time fan of Canon digital cameras I was keen to get my hands on the Powershot A400. Having used the A310 for sometime, the A400 was an attractively priced upgrade and I'm pleased to report that with a little coercion Santa delivered the goods. So, four months down the line, what is my verdict?
Firstly - compared to all other digital cameras I have used this is my favourite. I have used a range of cameras including many of the leading brands ... ...variations on one preset. The Canon does have a number of presets for indoors but even so, if you are keen for accurate skin tones in artificial light do take the extra second or so needed to set the white balance manually.
Having provided an overview let me deal with some aspects of the cameras functionality separately - feel free to skim through this picking out the sections relevant to your own digital imaging needs.
MEMORY:
As with all digital ...

Advantages: Neat, chunky and solid.Great pictures Disadvantages: some gimmicky features
...Both SLRs are made by Canon and I have been nothing but delighted with them. They are excellent middle range cameras, suitable for the semi-pro. I bought a Kodak for my first digital simply because it was cheap and cheerful, and an Olympus for my second. After my experiences with this camera, I will be buying a Canon next.
I borrowed my brother's camera to download his pictures of my new nephew and to see how well the Canon compared with the cameras ... ...There is also the standard Canon theme and another more fancy Canon theme. Silly. A waste of space. Otherwise the menus are simple to figure out and you can get up and running straight away. There are the standard functions you might expect from a digi camera: different auto focus modes for portrait, landscape, night photos, red eye reduction, auto orientation of the pictures, self-timer. There is a movie mode with sound and you get about 40 seconds ...

Advantages: Light, clear screen, easy to use, high picture quality Disadvantages: bundled memory card, battery use, video recording.
...holiday, and as with all Canon products I have found that the A400 is an extremely high quality product. Having never owned a digital camera before I found it important to chose a camera that was both easy to use and offered good picture quality. This certainally does that! Most camera functions can be figured out without the need to refer to the manual, as the buttons on the back are all nicely labelled and the on screen menu is uncluttered - but ... ...just as well thought out as the rest of the camera.
Connecting the A400 to a PC is a simple job, too - all you need to do is install the software from the CD and plug in the cable. Picture transfer is quick and simple too.
The only problems i have encountered with this camera are its excessive battery usage (two hours switched on and the batteries will be flat, even faster if you are viewing pictures or transferring files to a computer). Another ...

...for 'mid-cheap' range and the Canon power shot looked simplest to me.
After a few hours of torture I worked out how to use it - and it is really simple - even I can take a pic and download it onto the computer (still trying to work out how to edit and print - but all in good time).
After a very short time the batteries ran out - so I immediately got hysterical but have now learnt to remove the batteries every time I've finished using the camera ... ...be better off buying rechargeable batteries and a charger???)
The menu and functions are really easy to navigate assisted by pretty little diagrams of cameras, flowers and pointy hills and something that looks like lightning ... There's even a little magnifying glass (yes, I've managed to work that one out as well !!).
Suffice to say, with my fabulous technical ability I would really recommend this camera to anyone who is not a digital/computer/technology ...

Advantages: Light, Very Easy to Use, Good Value, Good Quality Image Disadvantages: Not Quite Pocket Sized, Guzzles AA Batteries
I was recently given this camera as an 18th birthday present .It was bought for £150 with some accessories, an extra 64mb memory card, a case, and a tripod. It can now be purchased for around £110 i believe.
After years of using a standard camera I was worried that it would be a challenge to get used to a digital. I couldn't have been more wrong though, as within a few minutes I could do everything I wanted to without reading the manual.
The interface ... ...and browsing through your photos. To change between the 4 modes (viewing, There are 8 modes for taking specific types of photo: Portrait, Night Scene, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Underwater (requires a waterproof case), and Indoor
So taking a great photo in a challenging environment does not require special photographical knowledge.
I use my camera mainly for photography when at concerts and music festivals, and find that the picture taken ...
