I've purchased the Canon PowerShot A540 about 3 month ago and must say that I'm very satisfied with it. The camera has a very comfortable handling because of the shape of the battery compartment, which doubles as grip (on the other hand, holding the camera is very uncomfortable if your left-handed but I think all cameras are designed for right-hand use)
The picture quality of this camera is excellent and it has a setting for almost any occasion. ... ...manually change all the settings, but this will take some time and experimenting to do right. The camera is equipped with a nice 2.5" display and an optical viewfinder in case the display is not clear (like in bright sunlight environments)
In addition to taking pictures, you can also record film with sound on the camera. Overall I think that this camera is a great product in its price range. ...

I bought my A540 last christmas which is about 4 months ago. Reason was my previous camera Konica Minolta z1 got stolen and desperately needed another one to tie me in until I get a more professional SLR. Feature wise, it has an excellent choice of features. There are several preset settings for night, snow, landscape, portrait, etc if you want to take out the hassle of trying to set the controls manually, or you can set all the controls manually ... ...the shutterspeed alone or the arpeture alone. there is the automatic and and it can also take video.
What is more, you can control the range of the flash, alter the focus settings to spot, evaluative or centreweighted, your have about 6 settings for the size, you can take pics in colour, sephia, there's even a setting for selective colour such that if you want just red, all other objects that are not red will come out in black and white!!! take ...

This camera is equipped with a 4x optical zoom lens, which covers a 35mm film equivalent focal length ranging from 35 mm (Wide Angle) to 140 mm (Telephoto), and f/2.6 (Wide Angle) - f/5.5 (Telephoto) aperture. The recording pixel settings now include a "Widescreen" mode that has the same aspect ratio as 16:9 widescreen TVs for shooting wide images. Adding ISO 800 has resulted in a faster shutter speed even when shooting in dark environments. The Color Accent mode and Color Swap mode that transform colors when shooting have been added to the Special Scene mode. The new "My Colors" in the FUNC. menu is used to change the look and feel of the pictures when shooting. With the newly added "Standard", "Fast Frame Rate", "Compact", "Color Accent" and "Color Swap" modes in the movie mode, it is easier to select modes to meet your photographic purposes. In the significantly enhanced movie mode, VGA (640 x 480 pixels) movies at a full 30 frames per second can be taken continuously until the clip size reaches 1GB or the clip length reaches 1 hour.
