I see the other reviews have the tech specs and product features covered so I won't be relisting those here. Instead I thought it would be useful to add my personal thoughts and experience with this camera. Hopefully this will be useful to those looking for more than just packaging text :)

- Personal thoughts -

One thing about compacts Ive used in the past is they either try to make things simple by having dozens of pre-programmed modes for flexibility, which ends up making them too complicated or they are just point and shoot.

This camera gives you total manual control as well as programmed features. You can adjust Shutter speed, Aperture, ISO all independently. It even has manual focusing if you want to use it. It gives you Aperture Priority, shutter priority. Ok its not an SLR but its as close as youll get with a compact.

Most compacts I've used are useless in low light, the Cannon is excellent in low light without a flash. Ok at ISO 1600 its a bit grainy but this camera has such flexibility you can get great results by playing around with its settings.

It is very easy to use and I havent really looked at the manual yet, which unfortunately is in .pdf format. I'd much prefer a book.

The pictures are sharp. I havent yet done a straight comparison with a Nikon P1 which I own. I suspect the Nikon might just edge it in the sharpness of the image in good light but the Canon is very good. The Nikon P1 was 280 pounds the Cannon 117.50 online. (Canon's website says about 160)

I suspect it might be a bit heavy on batteries compared to say a Sony.

If you cant make up your mind which camera to buy, buy this one. You will not be disappointed. I notice It's even cheaper now than two weeks ago!

Oh yeh, the Image stabilisation works well too. I took a picture of the crescent moon (hand held) the other night at 1/8th sec at full telephoto and it was in focus with no evidence of shake. Pretty amazing I'd say.

- Overall 9.5/10 -

Overall it is quite simply the best compact camera I've owned. Nothing is perfect to everybody, but for me this camera I really like.
