Advantages Advantages Light/pocketable high quality all purpose compact digital camera. Nice software

Disadvantages Disadvantages Noise already at ISO400, Now replaced by A720is (but price will drop!)

    - Premise My decision to buy a compact camera from Canon was almost obliged. I have already owned an EOS350 (Rebel XT in the US) since 2005 and I wanted to simplify as much as possible my life: the number of cables I have to bring along and the number of applications installed on my PCs. When a year ago I decided to buy a low-budget video-camera I bought the cheaper one from Canon (MV790) which used the same battery as the EOS 350. Have you ever thought how much things are simplified by having to carry only one battery charger and in case of emergency being able to swap the batteries? That was ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Heaps of features, stabilised 6x zoom, reliable, Canon lens, excellent results

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow flash recharge, noise at high ISO, demands a little learning

[Note: I did include paragraph spacing... but Ciao seems to be swallowing it!] The A710, as I like to call it to prove I'm on intimate terms with the thing (er, no, not in that way!), is a very, very nice camera. Despite having been overtaken in the last couple of years in the dreaded megapixel ratings - though 7.1 is more than enough for most people with a good lens such as Canon include here - it can still produce some superb results. However, it does demand a little bit of respect, and is perhaps not the ideal camera for someone looking for an out-and-out automatic point-and-shooter. As ... more

    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages good looking, 7.1 mp, price

Disadvantages Disadvantages AA Battery Life poor, Pictures are not smooth

I must point out that I am a big fan of Canon products from Cameras, Scanners and printers, so I thought this would be a cut and shut case of being a happy user... Having been recommended by the Camera shop and various reviews and bearing in mind my favour of the canon product I was extremely disappointed with the quality of shots, and the battery life of this camera I have both the A300 and 350d as alternative cameras and wanted something that fit between the two and at a reasonable price. Having returned the unit to my camera shop to clarify if the camera or i was at fauly from smudged ... more

Advantages Advantages great picture and video quality, auto setting, lots of settings, easy to use in auto

Disadvantages Disadvantages battery life, come with small memory card, need to buy case separately

This is my first camera bought just after christmas. I did the usual trawling through reviews and comparison sites for days because I was totally clueless. I think I managed to make a good choice though. I probably would have bought a cheaper model if I hadn't found this one on sale, its worth looking about as prices can vary widely and you might be lucky. I like the camera, the picture quality is actually really good, I have a good printer and pictures come out looking just like the ones developed from the photo shop. The colours on the pictures are amazing, I have a photo of someone with ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Great picture quality, good video capture, looks good, small and light enough

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small memory card (easily solved)

I took me ages to find the camera with the range of features, size, and large enough zoom, but when I finally found one that met all the criteria, it was the Canon Powershot A710 IS. The picture quality is definitely good enough, especially if you use the camera outside in daylight. The video is also good, I take films of myself and friends playing football, and the frame rate and quality are excellent, even the sound is very good. I bought 4 2500 uniross rechargeable batteries swell as a quick charger and these batteries will last me weeks at a time (100- 200 shots +) so I’d definitely ... more
