Full review
When looking around in the large selection of digital cameras my eyes wandered over the canon Powershot range in an Argos catalogue. I was looking for a high powered, compact digital camera which was practical for all aspects of non-professional photographic uses.

The canon A75 is a camera with a 3.2 megapixel sensor, in layman’s terms this means that on the resolution scale, this is reasonably high with maximum of 3.2 million pixels per picture. With many of the smaller models of digital cameras there is a low powered zoom and unfortunately, this is yet another addition to those aforementioned cameras. The 3 times zoom is rather low and can at time be slightly blurry, especially when taking close ups of objects or things not too far away.

One of the bonus’ of this camera is its straightforwardness, its incredibly simple to use and the manual is straightforward and uncomplicated. Its as simple as selecting the mode you want (ill tell you about modes later,) pointing and then shooting.

The modes.

The canon A75 has 5 modes for standard picture types which are selectable on the ‘mode’ dial on the top of the camera. There are also 6 other ‘scene’ modes, a mode to create 360 degree shots and a panoramic mode which helps make you pictures extremely wide.

The cameras modes give you a lot of control over the settings of the camera, canon have titled this ‘creative zone,’ I haven’t a clue why, and to be fair, it does sound really cheesey.

Theres a program mode and this is basically point & click but with more control, over the exposure of the picture it has picture effects and a load of other useless stuff for home users.
Theres a shutter speed mode which (Duh) lets you control the shutter speed, another mode is the aperture priority mode

The manual mode allows you to take complete control over all the settings and create a very specific picture of what you want. Canon have really pulled out all the stops for this mode.
Theres also another mode which is called ‘stitch assist,’ this aligns a set of pictures and is great for panoramic pictures or for showing a large area on a set of say 4-8 photographs.

The movie mode is also a lot of fun on this camera, the pixel resolution is 640x480 which is not incredibly high, but for the price Is a great incorporated feature. At a high resolution the maximum length of a clip is 30 seconds and at a low resolution it is 3 minutes, this ideal for people wishing to make video only movies and placing them upon say, an internet site.
Every mode except automatic enables you to take control over the focus, this is great as it allows you even more control over the cameras settings and how your picture will look. Flash is available in all modes and It is also possible after pressing a few buttons to turn the flash of so you can create dark, moody pictures.

Taking three triple A batteries the Canon A75 takes up a lot of juice but if used with rechargeable batteries then a lot of money can be saved. Unfortunately there is no AC power adaptor for the A75, but one can be purchased as an extra from Canon.

As a digital camera the canon A75 rises above the crowd with its versatility and relative ease to operate, its an excellent camera for those who may not be a techie but still want to be able to fiddle with a lot of different photographical extras.
