I love my A95.
I've had it for over a year now, and the quality of the photos I've taken has constantly amazed me. I won't 'blind you with science' and use all the 'photographer terms' (mainly because I don't know them all and don't want to sound like an idiot!) so I'll try and keep it as simple as possible.
It can take photos up to 5.3 megapixels - which is enough! Unless you want to make HUGE enlargements, this should be enough for you.
The zoom is x3 - again which is enough for most people.
If you know nothing about exposures, f-stops or anything like that, the A95 has a number of automatic controls and they are pretty good. I had an issue with the flash, it really made people seem washed out, but I fiddled around with the flash output and it rectified that.
You can zoom in and out of subjects pretty easily and if you want to, you can always buy a 35mm attachment to zoom in further (I will review that seperately). Remember to switch your zoom on or else you'll be wondering where your zoom has gone (I did that for a long while!)
The manual controls are what makes this a great camera for those of us who want a DSLR but can't afford it (sob). You can set the exposure (how long the shutter is open for) and f/stop (how wide the aperture is - meaning how much light is being let in) meaning that you have a lot more control over how your photo is going to look.
The LCD screen is pretty big and clear - you can pivot it around and take self-portraits easily (if you so desire) - great for 'long-arm shots'!
I find that the lower the exposure the more noise I get on my photos (this is a lot of grain on your photos) which is annoying, but unfortunately is a major critiscism of the camera.
The movie feature is fun and the microphone is not bad - it picks up sound really well.
The camera takes 4 AA batteries, I would really recommend getting at least 2 sets of rechargeable ones. They do last a while but it's better to be safe than sorry. Although the batteries do increase the weight of the camera quite a lot - they are handy. At least if you do run out whilst snapping the pyramids in Giza, you can be rest assured that there will be someone with AA batteries strapped to the back of their camel ready to sell to you - this isn't the case with all camera batteries!
The A95 is extremely sturdy and is easy to hold - even for those of us with little hands.
There are a few lenses you can buy to attach to the camera - I have the 35 mm one and I'll review that seperately.
I really do love this camera - all of my friends have one (after they saw mine) and it really is a great alternative between the world of the 'point and shoot' and the DSLR. I still think that if I ever get round to buying a DSLR that I won't part with this baby!

Advantages: Good quality pictures, many functions, large LCD which rotates Disadvantages: Heavy, bulky, short battery life, slow auto focus
...it is definitely the best. Canon cameras have always had a brilliant reputation and now I know why.
I purchased this camera in 2005 for £200. Not cheap but I knew I was going to get a good quality camera. The 5.0 Megapixel, 3X optical zoom, 4.1X digital zoom, 14 shooting modes (including landscape, portrait mode, hi-speed shutter, slow shutter, stitch assist, beach/snow, fireworks, night scene, underwater, indoor, foliage, kids & pets, black and ... ...was more than sufficiant for me but the fact that the LCD was vari-angle (twists in different directions) was a complete bonus. It made taking self portraits and difficult angled pictures a whole lot easier and this feature made my mind up when I was deciding what camera to purchase.
You can choose the size of the pictures you want to take (small (640X480), medium2 (1600X1200), medium1 (2048x1536), large (2592x1944) or postcard (1600x1200). Obviously, ...

Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: A little on the bulky side for a point-and-shoot camera
...which has a yellow/green bias, Canon seems to have a red/yellow bias, which gives brighter, bolder colours in pictures and a more healthy glow to people's skin when shooting portraits.
The camera uses the DiGiC processor. Even though DiGiC II is a lot faster and comes with the newer cameras, I don't find this much of a problem, considering everything else that's good about this camera.
The LCD is the best part - it swivels 270° so you can view ... ...most bang for your buck, Canon has packed more features into this camera than you think.

Advantages: plenty of photo options, swivel screen, good battery life, fun camera to learn with Disadvantages: unable to focus, no battery-low indicator, ...
I am generally satisfied with the gear - it is extremely easy and intuitive to operate. A95 has almost all the functionality of the dream Nikon d70 (apart from rear curatin sync which I really do miss). I actually did buy A95 after long dreams about d70. But one day it came to me apparent that I simply can not afford a $1500 toy which wouldn't pay off being used for occassional shots. Problems
1. (mentioned in the dpreview review) the camera is ... ...the photo gets very often way too bright. The results in the sunny day are worse than auto-exposure-3-year-old-sony-cybershot-photo. Too bad :(
2. (connected to 1. ) Ugly purple-blue fringing in high-contrast -sunny situations! Like in tiny mobile cameras. :(
3. The camera is virtually UNABLE TO FOCUS in dark light. The auto assist beam is too weak. Just try to enter make a photo of a absolutely dark room or zoom into something in a dimm light. ...

Advantages: Screen you can turn, lots of settings Disadvantages: A little heavy
I love this camera. I brought one almost 2 years ago and it has never had a problem with it. All my other digital camera's seemed to get faults and break quite quickly but this has always worked perfectly and never let me down. Theres so many options you can chose from manually to get the best results from your camera. I especially like the kids and pets setting as I wanted to get the best photo's as possible of my new baby but it's impossible to ... ...of blurry pictures. Using the kids and pets setting meant no more blur and good picture quality.
The main selling point of this camera has to be the turnable LCD screen. With other camera's my husband would take pictures of me and him together by holding the camera infront of us and guessing if we were in the shot. Now I have this camera we can turn the screen to face us so we can see if we are in the frame before we take the picture. The turning ...
