Me, my kids and husband are busy planning 'The Slowest Journey Ever'. A journey around the world with a big wagon, two horses and a whole family in it. Still a few years of planning and learning to go. Like learning how to handle a horse.....

I studied photography at the Art academie for a year. At that time I was carrying a big analog camera around, also Canon, which I have taken beautiful photo's with. The step to digital has frightened me a bit so it took a while before I was ready to take the plunge. The first digital camera I had was just a disaster and made me go back to my old camera. A few months ago I planned a trip to Thailand and didn't want to carry a big camera with different lenses. After extensive research on the matter I choose this one. The possibility to take photo's in RAW format made the choise easy for me because as far as I know, only this camera of this size can do this job. That's why many professional Photographers have one of these for jobs where a big camera is not a good option. (like basejumping...) It makes nothing but good quality photo's,(ofcourse depending a little on the photographers skils) just as good as with my bulky camera. The colors are just phenomenal! The features on the camera are the same as with my analog one, you can choose everything from automatic to manual and everything in between. It has all sorts of funky features like colorswap. The Macro function is exceptionally good and you can add a professional flash to te camera if you want to take portrets indoors or for night shots. Although I must say I hardly use it because I prefer natural light and the flash on the G10 is powerful. However, the size is maybe a difficult choise. It's size falls in between the 'Tiny stick in the pocket size' and the 'Very Bulky- need a special big bag size'. I got the special old fashion style bag, specially made for this camera. It is very handy because it protects the camera well and it is easy to take it out without any chance of dropping the camera because the camera is still stuck on the shoulderstrap ready to shoot a photo. The only disadvantage with this bag is that it isn't totally closed and therefore not water/sandproof. There is a beautiful big screen on the camera. Learn from my mistake and protect it from day 1 with a special screen protection. only a few pounds, certainely woth it) .
Oh, I almost forgot: the filmcamera is also very good. The quality, except for the zoom options, is very good. In a few situations where filming would have been the better option, I forgot that I had that possibility. Now however, I use it a lot and for the first time my children could see themselves on tv!
If you want good professional quality but no bulky lenses: this is your camera without a doubt.
