Offering the highest image quality in its class, the PowerShot G2 utilizes the latest 4-megapixel CCD to capture pin sharp pictures with every click of the shutter. With a...
more...high-resolution 3X optical zoom lens, reduced shutter interval, completely lossless RAW image recording mode and new Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and RGB filter, the PowerShot G2 is a new photographic industry benchmark. The powerful PowerShot G2 was designed for truly creative digital photographers who demand precision image capture management. Three Auto-focus modes including continuous, single and 3 selectable AF points with 12 shooting modes (including Program AE, Shutter priority AE, Aperture priority AE and fully manual exposure control) means the G2 can always deliver exactly what a photographer requires. Advanced image capture controls include a histogram exposure graph for image evaluation (as seen on the Canon EOS D30) that allows the photographer to see if an image is correctly exposed. Early indication of excess light or darkness allows exposure settings to be changed to obtain an optimal result. The histogram is displayed on the G2's vari-angle LCD monitor that twists and swivels to provide the most convenient viewing angle and adds flexibility when shooting in difficult or awkward situations. Development didn't stop there. The PowerShot G2 uses much less power than its predecessors, which means a lot more pictures from a single battery charge. Canon engineering gives a user more flexibility to take high-quality pictures whenever and wherever they want without worrying about running low on power. The versatility of the PowerShot G2 is enhanced by a comprehensive range of optional system accessories including Canon's full range of Speedlite EX flashguns making it possible to capture images in extreme low-light conditions. For low light close-ups the G2 supports Canon's Macro Ring Light (MR- 14EX) that can be fitted over a 250D close-up lens. For long distance work, a powerful 153mm tele-converter brings a subject right into the camera while a 27.2mm wide-angle converter makes it easy to grab those wrap-around wide-angle shots. All PowerShot G2 lens converters are compatible with the standard 3.6x step-less digital zoom. This means that high-quality images can be captured at any stage of the zoom process. Nothing but the best from the world's most technologically advanced camera manufacturer!

Full review
The G2 is in my view a huge step up from any other camera I have ever owned.

I have been a keen but truly amateur photogrpaher for a long time. Previously I owned a Canon AF1 and then my first digital an early HP model. I am not going back.

So why do I think the G2 is great? Well here goes a short list of what I like (if you want the featuress it offers - visit the Canon website):-

- the image quality is stunning - well balanced in almost all lighting conditions
- the zoom is flexible enough for most shots - supported by 6cm close ups (think a rose) and multishot panoramic capability (think 360 degree shot)
- the colour LCD is great and can be twisted so you can see to snap yourself if noone else is at the Grand canyon when you get there (some chance)
- it does not east batteries with every shot but has it's own rechnargeable - mine manages over 200 shots before suggesting a little recharge
- if and when I want to try and be clever, the camera has such a wealth of fearues and trips up its sleeve - there is always something you can do to get a brilliant shot. | just wish my creative mind was faster to create.
- Oh and I didin't reckon on using the 30 second video capability ever - but often do for those things only motion picture can capture.

I could go on - but suffice to say I have taken more "favourite photos" in one year with this camera than I had accummulated before.

Oh and when I bought it at Jessops after a small haggle to reduce the price - I also got them to throw in a Loewe case - which is truly excellent - protecting the kit well and being easy to fix to a belt of clip to anything else or just carry.

Perhaps the only downsides I can cite are:-

- the autofocus shutter delay takes some getting used to and can be irritatingly slow, especially for action shots
- the price took some time to negotiate with my beloved wife.
- it is is a little bigger than some alternatives - so not light or pocketable - quality has a trade off.
- you will want to buy a bigger compact flash card - the bigger the better so you don't need more than one for most trips.

In summary - it is a quality piece of technology that delights me each time I use it. There are many competitors and each varies in size / price and features. But if you are like me interested but not as talented as you are keen - this rewards you greatly.

Best advice to myself since buying - take a few more shots of that and try something different (your camera is digital and failures costs nothing)
