Having owned a G1 previously, the step to the G3 was not a "risk" for me. I was drawn to the upgrade by the 4x zoom, the 4mp, the digic processor among other minor issues. I have been generally... more

    Advantages Advantages Compact,full of features.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Propiratory battery

I have now ventured into the world of digital photography after over 20 years of using my faithfull Nikon SLR. After spending several hours studying reviews, I decided to look for a lightweight compact camera that had the advantages and versatility of an SLR. The Canon G3 fills the bill admirably and it is one of the most feature packed cameras for its size and price on the market. The camera is fitted with an f2.0 30-140mm zoom lens which can be expanded by digital zoom. It is fitted with a 4.0m pixel ccd which is capable of high resolution sufficient to produce A4 size prints without any ... more

Advantages Advantages Battery life, versatility, quality of photographs, ease of use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Size, and size of initial flash card.

This camera has converted me to digital photography. It is brilliant in so many ways. The battery life is brilliant, although it would be good if you could buy back up AA batteries in case the big one went flat although this has only happened to me once in about two years of using it. The quality of photographs are very impressive and I have printed photographs out at my local photo printers and they have been of an incredible standard, much better in many ways than my old SLR. There are also a variety of modes and you can use an external flash for even better pictures in dark surroundings ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent features, great colors, excellent flash, sweet lens.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages No stabilazation

Having owned a G1 previously, the step to the G3 was not a "risk" for me. I was drawn to the upgrade by the 4x zoom, the 4mp, the digic processor among other minor issues. I have been generally pleased, however I have had corrupt file issues using a Crucial 4 GB card and a 2 GB Sandisk card. I have recently purchased a Kingston 4GB 45x to see if the higher speed helps it. My impression vs. the G1 is that the camera is quicker to take pictures end to end. Not super-fast, but quicker. The flash on the G3 is excellent and usable for illumination or fill, in any situation without washout. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Great pictures, easy to use for newbies, versatile

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lens barrel partialy blocks viewfinder

I knew I wanted one of these the first time I saw one over 12 months ago. This is because the Powershot G cameras have a pedigree IMHO that no other camera can come close to. All the models in the G range have been outstanding and considered by many to be the benchmark in their class. The camera is very well speced for the £399 I paid for it, yes £399 (was > £600 a year ago). It has a nice bright F2.0 lens, a good 4x optical (good, no quality loss), digital (bad, quality lost dependent on how much greater than optical), controls over shutter/aperture, full manual (scary), good array of scene ... more

Advantages Advantages Clear photo's and automated so easy for a beginner

Disadvantages Disadvantages Mine came without a carry bag, so I had to buy separately

This is now an updadted op. The camera has been used extensively and so i can tell you some more about it. I can also rectify some of my ciao opinion writing errors by adding in prices etc. Because this was one of my first ops I wasn't sure of what to put but I guess I have learned my lessons. I have never owned a digital camera before, but with the prices coming down I decided to take the plunge. I am not a professional but I do like to snap away with family and friends and occassionaly try to get a little artistic! I bought What Camera, a magazine that gives reviews (i didn't know about Ciao ... more
