High Image Quality The 5.0 Megapixel CCD delivers the high resolution expected of a camera in this class, allowing photo prints up to A3 in size and more scope for image cropping. This sensor allows the camera to capture still images as large as 2592x 1944 pixels and movies as large as 320 x 240 pixels.
Optical Zoom Lens Canon's tradition of superb lens quality continues with a fast f2.0 (W) to f3.0 (T) 4x optical zoom lens, (7.2 to 28.8mm) which is equivalent to a 35 -140mm lens in 35mm format. An optical neutral density (ND) filter - unique to Canon - is built into the lens to reduce light by 3 stops, permitting creative slow shutter /large aperture settings in bright conditions.
Smooth Digital Zoom (16 x combined with optical zoom)
RAW Mode RAW mode allows you to obtain original image data, recording the image direct from the CCD without any image processing.
Shooting Modes The PowerShot G5 has 12 shooting modes giving you complete control over the camera in every possible shooting situation. Along with all the fully manual and aperture/shutter priority modes expected in an advanced digital, the PowerShot G5 includes two Custom modes for storing preferred camera settings, Portrait and
Landscape modes to minimise/maximise depth of field appropriately, and a Night Scene mode providing slow sync speed for realistic shots balancing exposure to maintain both background and foreground detail. StitchAssist works in five modes to enable precise alignment of up to 26 images for panorama and poster shots that are merged with supplied PhotoStitch software. 180-second video clips with sound can be recorded in movie mode. Photo effects include sepia, vivid colour, black and white, neutral and low sharpening.
New Technologies
DIGIC Processor The PowerShot G5 incorporates the NEW DIGIC processor for even better colour reproduction.

iSAPS Stands for "intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space" relates to image rendition for the creation of a natural looking scene or colours as seen by the photographer.

PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol The PowerShot G5 supports PTP, a standard protocol. This allows driver-less image communications with computers when combined with recent operating systems (Windows XP or Mac OS). A computer using this system will automatically select the correct drivers for the camera without needing to install them. On older operating systems a driver is still required to be installed.
Direct Print
Directly connectable to all Canon Direct Print printers, the PowerShot G5 delivers superb quality photo prints with no need to connect to a PC. With 5.0 Megapixels, the PowerShot G5 has the resolution essential for premium-quality large-format A3 prints.
Canon Card Photo Printer CP-100 / CP-200 / CP-300 Simple and quick direct printing is possible with the dedicated Card Photo Printers, producing images of 300 x 300 dpi on a credit card size or 6 x 4" print.
When the PowerShot G5 is connected to the CP printers, bordered or borderless prints can be selected and a trimming function allows a portion of a picture to be expanded and printed.
Canon Bubble Jet Direct The PowerShot G5 is compatible with Bubble Jet Direct Printers connecting direct via a cable and controlled by the camera through the direct print screen.
Weight 410g (approx) body only I'm myself new to the art of photography and i am only now learning about the science behind it. Poweshot G5 fully incorporates this science imploying digital storage, display, manipulation, and printing methods. The data input method is the same as a traditional SLR Camera using otical devices of the same design and quality (lenses, mirrors) For storage it uses CCD Charge coupled devices which are in fact a memory chips storing data in binary form. CCD Memory chips use electric charge to write and store data, and term megapixel describes the resolution of these devices (higher the value better the quality) So the maximum resolution of 2592x 1944 gives you the number of megapixels. Contoliing this and all the other processes is the CPU (DIGIC Processor). The next stage is transfering the image from CCD onto the Memory card wich uses the flash memory technology) Maximum storage of these devices is 4 Gb. There are different modes of shooting, each mode describing the format of the image and functions. In RAW mode which is most memory demanding you can do anything scientifically possible. while other modes limit these options (shooting in the dark, shooting in black and white or sepia and plenty of other things). It has a PTP (picture transfer protocol) which is the standard for transfering the image between camera and PC. Direct Printing means that it can be directly connected to Cannon printer with supports this function without the need for a PC. The software for transferring images is good (has all you would expect it to have). You can use an adapter which is attached on top of the lens to add filters, and objectives, which adhere to cannon standard. the minor design fault is that the lens gets in the way of viewfinder . The Camera has some impresive focusing techniques splitting the image into sectors focusing on each one then determining the average value. or using a beam of light to determine the focus distance. Zoom is the combination between analogue 4x and digital 4x giving you a total of 16x. On 1Gb card at best resolution you can store more than 120 images giving you four times SLRx36 film. Film (CCD) sensitivites are the same 100 200 400 ... . This Camera uses latest technology hence the price (value for money) but the overheads are low). Good battery life
I own a Powershot G5and would like to write a small review based on my experience. Powershot G5 offers exellent picture quality and comes with all the features you would expect from a professional digital camera. It has excellent range of features with excellent quality. It is relatively easy to use if you follow the manuals. It is very reliable and durable. The size is acceptable and it is not very heavy. It looks good but has some design errorrs. Good value for money. It comes with instructions that are easy to follow and explain all the functions. I would like to reccomend it to potential buyers.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
(+) Ultra-compact dimensions, fun automatic tools, good performance for the asking price (-) Cluttered menu layout, camera buttons are scarce, specs are almost identical to the Samsung ES15
well structured review. But you used many terms that few people would understand. Try and tone down the expertees, or just explain things more clearly. Me...I found that review perfect. Well done.

I bought this camera a couple of months ago, for a holiday, as My S2 was alittle heavy to carry. What superb pictures it takes. (I'll be writing my own review soon).
