With my renewed passion in photography, deciding which camera I should buy was proving to be tough. I wanted a camera that would help me take some great nature shots, especially macros, and which would also double up as a camera for all occasions. A DSLR was out of budget for me and after a lot of thought, I decided on the CanonS2IS and I must say it has been the best decision for me.

I have been using my Canon S2IS for more than 6 months now and I am extremely happy with its performance. The camera has a 12x optical zoom/4x digital zoom and an auto/manual focus with an ISO range of 50-400. In addition, it has a movie mode with sound and a continous shoot mode for 2+ shots per second which is very impressive for a camera in this class.

I love the "Super Macro" mode of this camera which enables me to take superb macro shots from as close as 1cm from the subject. The macro shots I have taken with the S2IS are absolutely stunning. I have even managed to capture the beautiful patterns of snowflakes using the "Super macro" mode. The 12x optical zoom of the camera is impressive as well. Thanks to it, I was able to take some great moon pictures with this camera, something which I just couldn't do with my old camera.

As most of my pictures are handheld, I find the camera's integrated image stabilizer very useful. The camera has a flip-out LCD which enables me to take pictures from unusual angles.

The camera also has a lot of special features which enable me to shoot under varying light conditions (e.g., sunny, cloudy, in tungsten/fluorescent lighting). I can enhance a specific colour while taking a picture (e.g., enhance the green when shooting foliage pics) or replace one colour with another to come up with some rather funky-looking results (e.g., replacing the red in tomatoes with blue). This allows me to experiment with my photography and come up with beautiful results which are well-appreciated by fellow photographers.

I definitely think it's the next best camera to a digital SLR. So if you want to take quality pictures at an economical cost then I would certainly recommend the Canon S2IS.
