Yes it had a pleasing amount of functions inc' full manual, apeature & shutter priority modes. And the zoom is smooth, though slightly steps back once you stop moving it. Focusing was 9/10 accurate (focus beam works well, though animals may not appreciate it), colours are truly well represented. However the images are bit on the softer side for my liking (Im much more fond of the Fujifilm quality...I had an ordinary P&S A350 Fuji that took better pics than this!). Also there is concernable 'noise' in shadow details (obvious in photos without flash), which bugged me as it resembled an image more like a webcame (to me). BUT In daylight, it does makes a lovely not too bulky/heavy compact yet 10X zoom camera. fitted into my standard Kodak compact camera case.
Power up/down times are quite reasonable (say ~ 1.5sec). I returned it as I thought I could get a better camera with the sharpness in image quality I am looking for. They say you can sharpen it post-production, but I found this to not much benefit.
Also the though large LCD screen on the back was very very easy to get smudge marks, so if smudge bugs you..this will bug you.
Bottom line: It is good value for money; considering the the zoom & min' apeature of 2.8..which is a nice standard size. Also considering the ease of use & basic all round functions available. It just depends whether you are bugged by not totally crisp pictures at even 50% viewing! (especially in low light)

I really like this camera. I am certainly no photographer, I am a bit of a point and click kind of person. But with this camera, even I can take some great pictures with very little effort just on the auto setting. For a person with some know-how, this camera has a lot of additional settings allowing you to take proper control of your shots.
There is a lot of technology within this camera. It has a very good macro setting, it has face recognition, ... ...all the function dials and buttons are easy to use.
There are a few things I don't like. The flash isn't great and the screen often shows pictures as brighter than they really are. And I don't really get on with the software it comes with for uploading your photos.
But overall I can't complain. It has a decent resolution, fantastic zoom, even when using the digital settings. It is so comfortable to hold and everything is just where you need it. ...

Advantages: Light weight, with plenty features and easy to use. Disadvantages: slightly Grainy images at extreme ISO ranges
...camera the battery in this one is a Lithium ion (NP BG1) which Sony claim will allow you to take around 330 shots before a recharge is needed. I cannot disagree with this unless you are constantly messing around with the settings and going back to check on images you have previously taken then this drops to around 250 photos. Regular zooming in and out can take serious toll on the battery life also.
ALTERNATIVES
In the same bracket as this camera you will find cameras such as the CanonPowershotSX100 IS and Panasonic DMC TZ3 along with others, the others in the range I cant comment on because I have not used them but the two I mention I have used and I personally prefer the Sony both for its range of functions and its ease of use.
