Canon have also made the RC5 remote, which, whilst it is slightly bigger and a little more comfortable to use, doesn't give you the option to pick between timer delay, and simple shutter release.
This remote will easily give you a good 5M range, although I tend to use mine standing next to the camera when it's mounted on a tripod, simply to remove as much camera shake as I can. Obviously the windy weather can ... ...have invented a remote for that yet.
Expect to pay anthing from £9 to £35 - so it pays to shop around.
Downsides:
It is a little on the small side, and can be fiddly when outdoors (particularly if cold) - the small size doesn't necessarily make it hard to use, just more likely to drop it.
