The Canon T90 is no longer manufactured as a new camera, but is available secondhand. This and the F1 are undoubtedly the best non AF SLRs ever made, with only Nikon equalling them. The T90 is the powerful electronic SLR with on-board computer. It boasts a fast built-in autowinder, shutter speeds to 1/4000s and multimode metering. The multi-spot metering system ensures allows the photographer to select areas for spot metering and take several readings which are automatically averaged. This is the equivalent of Zone metering. The average, weighted average and spot metering systems allow the expert photographer to get his exposure exactly how he wants it.
The choice of automatic, manual, aperture priority and shutter speed priority control is superb (the latter makes use of Canon's original invention of shutter speed priority - where the shutter speed is set and the aperture adjusted). Canon FD lenses are excellent quality and, because of a clever design that avoids the mating surfaces moving across each other, don't lose their performance with wear.
The dedicated flash adds to capability. If you know photography and how to really use a camera, then there is nothing that this camera cannot do except process the film.
If you get one of these secondhand, then ask Canon to make the one modification that should have been standard. They can reprogram the on-borad computer to leave the film leader out on rewind. With this aleration you can switch films and then put the original film back. It is remarkeably easy to return a film to the camera and (firing the shutter with the lens cap on) return to the same point as before.
Highly recommended secondhand. If you buy it secondhand, you will be able to resell it a few yaers later for the price you paid. There are millions of T90s in circulation, but few photographers get rid of them.

Good op. I love my T90 and I will be sad when it retires. I wish I had known about the film-leader software mod. I bought a leader-extractor because I swap films a lot and it is so frustrating to use.
