Canon WP DC12 Marine case Digital photo camera

Advantages: Excellent extension for Canon S50
Disadvantages: No direct strobe connection

...The casing is well constructed, and if you follow the users guide there is very little chance of water damaging your camera. I have used this case with the Canon S50 and it worked very well. However you need to put the camera on stand by power so you must ensure that you have charged the battery before you descend. The only thing that is a little disppointing is you cannot connect a strobe or underwater flash unit directly to the camera. You need to buy a strobe light with a slave sensor on it. Apparently this can work very well although I have not tried it. The fitting of the camera into the case is a breeze and if you have used silicone gel on the O ring you feel very confident that nothing untoward will happen. ...I purchased this camera case in New Zealand back in 2003 and have used it on a number of occasions since both in the Pacific and in the cold waters around the UK. It's performed will in both the warm and cold water. As you would expect, with a Canon product, it is well constructed out of clear plastic. (I think the colourful bits are to cater for the wet-weather user rather than the scuba diver!). The case gives access to all of the camera controls, a rocker switch for photo or review, a rotary switch for manual, auto, etc. and push buttons for the remaining controls. All you have to do to setup is lightly grease the o-ring with the supplied silicone grease and insert the camera - that's it. It's best to insert the camera in a dry atmosphere to prevent condensation forming inside the case. On occasion I would put a silica gel... Read review

Advantages: great for underwater photos
Disadvantages: fogs up after 30 mins underwater.

...I bought this underwater case for my Cannon Ixus 400 (which i have also reviewed) from Camerasunderwater.com for £140 including postage in 2004 to be used to take photos of my son while he was learning to swim as my wife thought it would be cheaper to take our own photos rather than pay for the courses own ones. The housing came with an instrution manual, neck strap (never used it) a wrist strap, spare "O" ring seal and some grease. The case is made out of clear plastic, and a glass lens which is screwed to the case and neoprine rubber which is on the inside of the case where the cameras zoom lens fits into, there is also an opaque plastic just over the lens infront of where the flash is on the camera itself which is used to defuse the flash underwater at nighttime.
