Advantages: great for underwater photos Disadvantages: fogs up after 30 mins underwater.
I bought this underwater case for my Cannon Ixus 400 (which i have also reviewed) from Camerasunderwater.com for £140 including postage in 2004 to be used to take photos of my son while he was learning to swim as my wife thought it would be cheaper to take our own photos rather than pay for the courses own ones.
The housing came with an instrution manual, neck strap (never used it) a wrist strap, spare "O" ring seal and some grease.
The case is made out of clear plastic, and a glass lens which is screwed to the case and neoprine rubber which is on the inside of the case where the cameras zoom lens fits into, there is also an opaque plastic just over the lens infront of where the flash is on the camera itself which is used to defuse the flash underwater at nighttime.
All camera functions can still be used underwater with this ...
Advantages: Nice looking, lightweight, has belt loop too Disadvantages: Canon S5 doesn't fit at all, no extra pockets and too expensive
Canon DCC-90 Soft Case - my review
Canon DCC-90 is the official soft case for the Canoncamera models S2, S3 and S5. There isn't really too much to say about this soft case but I'll do my best.
I own a Canondigital camera S5 IS and since the size of this camera is quite weird (not as big as Reflex cameras but neither small enough to fit in common cameracases) I found very hard to find a proper case for it. What stopped me from buying the original case by Canon was it's price. As a matter of fact the cost is £14.55 at the lowest (on amazon.co.uk) while generally can be purchased around £17-25 everywhere else. Also I could hardly find any picture of it online and they are impossible to find in shops so I didn't really fancied spending such an amount of money for something I couldn't even see properly. I am aware that ...
Advantages: Allows you to take your camera diving! Disadvantages: Rotary control turns too easily.
I purchased this cameracase in New Zealand back in 2003 and have used it on a number of occasions since both in the Pacific and in the cold waters around the UK. It's performed will in both the warm and cold water.
As you would expect, with a Canon product, it is well constructed out of clear plastic. (I think the colourful bits are to cater for the wet-weather user rather than the scuba diver!).
The case gives access to all of the camera controls, a rocker switch for photo or review, a rotary switch for manual, auto, etc. and push buttons for the remaining controls.
All you have to do to setup is lightly grease the o-ring with the supplied silicone grease and insert the camera - that's it. It's best to insert the camera in a dry atmosphere to prevent condensation forming inside the case. On occasion I would put a silica gel ...
