Advantages: Great Monochrome Printer Disadvantages: Its a colour printer
...printing, the other is a Canon i550 which is used on the rare occasions that we need to colour print.
As this printer was bought by the company I work for, I do not know how much we paid, however after having a quick look on the internet, the average price for this printer is around £110.
I've been using this printer at work for about 2 years now and decided it was about time that I wrote a review about it.
**What is it**
The Canon i550 is a ... ...from most outlets for the Canon brand, however cheaper compatible cartridges can be bought for around £3.
They are very easy to replace, lift the lid on the printer and when they are empty the cartridges move to the middle of the printer for easy access. Each cartridge has its only separate holder which is easy to open, allowing easy and non messy changing of the ink.
**Use**
I find that this printer is very quick when printing black text, however ...

Advantages: Very reliable and pretty cheap to run Disadvantages: Err.............You'd bet better nowadays for the price we paid
...as well. Thank you magical Canon ink fairy.
Set-up is easy-peasy. insert the disk and the software literally talks you through it. Which I think is a dodgy use of the word *literally* as it didn't actually speak. That would be scary. Anyway, the whole process was 5 mins fro start to test page printing.
Print quality - is good. Now were a school so to be honest it isn't the most important factor. rarely do we have a 5 year-old criticising us for ... ...ones anyway. But, at the time it was the best Id seen from a *school* printer and I still think it passes muster today. You will get better - but you probably wont notice all that much unless you get really close. and thats a wierd thing to do.
Ink - lasts!!!!!!!! We are a poor poor government institution. Nor far off
being the poorhouse. we need printers that will print for ever. where that magical ink fairy gone now? and this one does pretty ...

Advantages: Very low running costs, intelligent driver Disadvantages: Initial cost may deter some
...was buying he recommended the Canon i550 without hesitation. He then quoted statistics about my old printer - one they don't sell, incidentally - that I knew to be correct. He then explained that the original cartridges are £8.09 for individual colour cartridges and £8.99 for black (not sure where previous reviewer buys his!).
The printer in question was out of stock, so I was certain his advice was unbiased as he let me walk out of the store and ... ...I think PC World sell the i850 (which supercedes this one) for about £129: details of the product can be found at the website: www.canon.com.
Anyway, I bought this printer and I've never looked back. Friends are fed up of hearing me rave on about it!
Printing speed: amazing. Likewise quality. You don't need to use Canon's own cartridges and compatibles can be bought as cheaply as £2.78. That's not a typo: 4 cartridges for just over a tenner including ...

My old printer was a Lexmark Z32 and I decided to replace it after problems with the cartridges. They are so expensive approx £26, I tried refilling, that worked for a time but in the end I got fed up with the problems so time for a change.
I had it in my head to go for an Epsom because a freind who prints massive amounts of stuff said that the ink cartridges were a whole lot cheaper than a lot of other makes.
I'm not sure what happend but I tend ... ...I ended up looking at the Cannon printers. Maybe it was the cost of the ink.
The Cannon i550 has three seperate colour cartidges, so if one colour runs out before the others you only replace that colour. You don't have to throw the remaining ink for the other two away. How simple is that idea!
The cost of the colour ink is approx. £8 each for Cannon's own brand. The black is bigger and costs approx. £14. Not too bad I thought. The facts and figures ...

This is the second Canon A3 colour printer I've owned. I had the i9950's predecessor the S9000.
The key advantage that this model has over the S9000 is the addition of two extra ink cartridges (red and green) to make eight in total.
