My experience of printers before I purchased this Canon had lead me to believe that inkjet printers however upmarket you go just "could not cut the mustard" when it came to printing photos.
Fine when new but after a reasonable amount of use the results were not so great-----leading to wasting ink cleaning the jets which then gets on various rollers and eventually onto paper, at the same time the volume of normal operation and particularly cartridge charging steadly increases eventually becoming unbearable.
One epson printer I had found it hard to do black, prefering instead brown making images look like they were taken in the 1940's. All this led to wasting large amounts of ink, paper and most importantly time.
Enter the Canon i965 a large rather expensive printer suited to photo printing upto A4 size.
6 ink tanks that are clear so you can see they are empty, (with the epson I'd give it a shake put them back get another months use), with the Canon when it says empty it means it and when you replace them you can see the old one is empty.
Still very quiet after 18 months use (a miracle as far as I am concerned).
I cannot believe how good this printer is, it just works , no misalignment, no smudged marks, text is clear, excellent prints and blacks are black. Cartridge changing is easy and all it needs is a dust once in a while !
It has loads of features such as CD printing for special CD's with a printable label, pictbridge for printing direct from cameras that have this feature, and a 6x4 inch feeder tray.
Faultless printer, and its little brother (i865) is also great value and cheaper to run for those who want to print text mainly, though it's no slouch at photos either.
As for the i965 you pay for what you get and here you get excellence all round.
