Disadvantages: small lcd display - no built in handset

It has very good quality output and looks built to last. There is colour scan and fax, but printing and photocopies are mono (black and white) because it only has a monochrome toner - so no surprises there. It has automatic duplex (both sides) printing. print speed is fast. cartridges are £60 for original ones and you may buy remanufactured ones at less than half price. When I purchased Canon were including a 3 year next day on site repair warranty, but if you choose to use remanufactured toners then you will invalidate this warranty (i understand you still have the option to pay the engineer extra). Regardless it shows that they have a lot of belief in their product not falling over. negatives for me are that the person this was bought for has fail eyesight and the lcd display is small and detailed for them. Canon Quality

Advantages: Same Canon quality we have come to expect, great ISO capabilities.
Disadvantages: Buttons can get fiddly in the cold.

The sensor on this model has a larger pixel count than many of its rivals and cheaper models in the range. The 15.1 megapixels on offer is more than enough for the market it is aimed at, these images will easily be blown up above A3 and still retain most of the detail. Review of Canon EOS 500D

A slightly less explosive Canon.

Advantages: Typically good Canon images.
Disadvantages: Poor flash and feels a bit flimsy.

Canon along with Nikon have for years been known as the kings of camera`s but with things changing rapidly in the DSLR market Canon had to think fast. All of Canons recent releases have been at the expensive end of the market and they have been rapidly losing ground to the likes of Nikon and the new kids on the block (Sony). The release of the Canon EOS 1000D in June this year (2008)was an attempt to get back in the entry level market and whilst I think it should have the desired effect I am still not convinced they have done enough to tempt people away from the less expensive Sony option. Many people myself included thought that the new Canon would just be a fresher version of the Canon EOS 400D and the only stand out feature available on this 1000D that the 400 did not offer was a live view, so were Canon trying to pull the wool ...
