Advantages: Beautifully presented little snippet of the future, post-His Dark Materials Disadvantages: Undeniable aftertaste of pointlessness
Anyone who has read any of my previous ops about books, audio books or children?s books, will have come across copious references to Philip Pullman, and my love of the beautifully crafted His Dark Materials. It is an extraordinary book, published as a trio of intelligent, pacy, fantastical novels: Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass. If this epic collection has a fault it is, as jillmurphy once suggested to me, that it verges on a polemic against organised religion that involves some gentle brainwashing of its own. I think this is true. But I also think that it is a stunningly written and fascinating exploration of those themes from the point of view of a child pitched on the verge of adulthood.
His Dark Materials ended oddly for me. Although it had been a long haul through The Amber Spyglass, and although ...
Advantages: Brilliant end to a brilliant trilogy. Short chapters: ideal stopping places Disadvantages: Much longer than the others. Very descriptive in the middle.
at a tangent in these parts.
Pullman touches heavily on the religious nature of the books in this third and final installment. I had to put that to the back of mind and regard it purely as work of fiction. 'His Dark Materials' has been used in the same sentence as words such as 'heresy'and 'blasphemy', and I could see why, but I just readit as an imaginative tale.

Will is the bearer of the Subtle Knife (the title of the 2nd book), and together they travel through different worlds with the aid of the knife. They are aided by characters such ...
Advantages: Good looks, 2 stroke smells Disadvantages: unreliable, expensive parts - Italian
of power (it is only 250cc after all) means that if you go in to a corner in the wrong gear, or go in too hot and lose the speed (and the revs) then you'll have to cog it down to second and wring it's neck through the gearbox once more. This is part of the RS's charm.
The RS is a total wheely machine - even if you don't want to. Red lining it in first and second wii get the front wheel in the air, especially if you lean back - even a little. In fact, to keep it down you have to ensure that you keep your weight over the front in the first two gears. Although wheelies are cool and a crowd pleaser the coppers don't like them (as I found out!)
Ever since my days on an AR50 I have loved the smell of two stroke oil, especially with a little Castrol R put in for good measure. Riding an RS you will smell 2 stroke ALL the time, believe me. Nice if ...
