I don't usually get sucked in by TV adverts, but when I saw a credit card offering 4% cashback on purchases for the first 3 months my ears pricked up and I started to pay attention.
I always transfer most of my salary into Halifax web saver account (Earning me nearly 5% interest) and pay for everything I possibly can by credit card, clearing the balance each month. Recently the amount of cashback that I have earned on my credit card has reduced to a meagre 0.5% from an original 2% so you can see why 4% cashback was attractive to me.
Credit cards are great if you pay the balance off in full each month - which I do - not so good if you have to pay interest at a high rate on a slowly reducing balance.
I applied for my Capital One Mastercard through the Mutual points website (a few points into my account there). This was a simple painless quick process. I needed my bank details to do this so its worth having them ready if you want to apply for a card on line.
In a few days I recieved paperwork to sign and shortly afterwards my card and pin number arrived in seperate envelopes and I was ready tohead off spending. As I have been doing a lot of home improvements recently my cashback has added up nicely.
At the end of each month I have recieved my statement with plenty of time to pay before the due date and a choice of ways to pay. I choose to transfer my payment from my bank on line but you can pay in a bank, by direct debit or by post - so no excuse for not making your payment!
After 3 months you only get 1% cashback - still more than American Express or Halifax.
Travel insurance policy for an unlimited number of private or business trips abroad, each trip being a maximum of 60 consecutive days, starting and ending in the Country of residence. Cover will only be active if at least 75% of the total cost of the transport and/or accommodation has been paid with the World Card.
Reading through the policy it seems to be comparable with most standard travel insurance.
There is also a free ID theft Service.
If you have an excellent credit rating which is explained clearly on the website the interest rate on outstanding balances is 15.9% There is no Annual fee.
If you have a good credit rating - again explained fully on the website - the interest on any outstanding balance is 18.6% you also have to pay an annual fee of £18
If you need to strengthen your credit rating - sorry you can't get the card with cashback.
Cashback is paid in January with a credit being made to your account. You don't get this if you close your account before you get your cashback or if you default on payments.
If you want to transfer existing balances from other cards a 3% transfer fee is payable. The minimum amount you can transfer is £50.
You can apply for the card on line at http://www.capitalone.co.uk. You may also get information through the mail or watch out for the TV ad
Just a thought to end with... If you spend £3000 in the irst 3 months you will get £120 credited to your card in January.. How helpful will that be just after Christmas. Then after that if you spend £1000 a month on your card you will still get £120 the following January - Can't be bad. I'll be sticking with this card until I find a better offer.
