This review is something of an obituary. After struggling on in various formats for a couple of years now, RI:SE is facing the axe, and will be disappearing from our screens in a few weeks? time.
Originally designed to replace the Big Breakfast in Channel 4?s 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. slot, RI:SE was a funkier, younger rival to GMTV and BBC Breakfast News. Its original ?newsdesk? style format, anchored by presenters Mark Durden-Smith and Edith Bowman, quite appealed to me, as did the news bulletins featuring the top 5 headlines for the morning. However, the format failed to capture the attention of the great British public, and the originally quite impressive array of presenters started leaving the show like rats deserting the proverbial sinking ship. The McEniff Ard Ri hotel stands proudly on a large hill in splendid solitude a testimony to its Gaelic name of High King!
The hotel itself has suffered from a lack of investment in the past 10 years when it was owned by the Jury's group, however almost 2 years ago the McEniff chain took over and this hotel has blossomed.
It is one of the cheaper hotels in Waterford despite its lofty position, possibly because it is on the South side of the river whereas the town itself and other attractions are on the North side. I stayed for a week in April for an amazing rate found on the internet for just EURO65 per night. The hotel is a popular venue for local weddings, and has large conference facilities and function rooms.
It also has a leisure club with a pool supervised from the deck by lifeguards. There is also a nice jacuzzi in a kind ...

Now I the sort of person that finds it incredibly hard to get up in the mornings and will do anything to have a few extra minutes in bed. The Big Breakfast on channel 4 was never a big hit for more and did the opposite affect of what it should have done by boring me back to sleep.
Most people associate channel 4 with morning television purely down to the fact that they get the highest ratings at this viewing time.
After Big Breakfasts ratings went lowers than an American submarine the channel 4 crew decided to introduce a new level of early morning entertainment which is now know to most as RI:SE. This program, which is new to channel 4, has so far had appalling viewers statistic rates, which is very unusual for a new program of that magnitude.
