Synopsis, The civil war on Romulus has been stopped and Kirk can now search for the truth behind the death of his friend, Spock. Kirk believes Spock to have been assassinated by the Totality.

Before Kirk can answer these questions he needs a starship. As luck would have it, an offer from Starfleet gifts him with the starship that he needs. But their conditions are that they can call on his help when required. You can probably guess the rest, Starfleet calls him for help and it turns out everything, his questions, his son, the totality and the threat to the Federation all ties in on this adventure.
Opinions - As with all Star Trek novels the Science is well grounded and easily understandable. It is well written and enjoyable to read. The space battles are exciting combining the Enterprise and Kirks new ship, the Belle Reve.
The climax of the book takes place on Vulcan and was a little drawn out.
In summary, if you've read any other Star Trek novels then it will feel like putting on a pair of old comfy shoes. This is apparently William Shatner's last Star Trek novel and all in all it's not a bad way to end his writing career.

Captains Glory.
===========
I do enjoy some Star Trek and to be honest this was actually a better than average read.
This is the 3rd in a trilogy but you would not know it, the story makes a few references but only a few and it makes no difference. This could be a stand alone book in its own right.
Kirk is looking for answers to the death of Spock. He knows that the hidden and secretive society called the Totality are directly responsible but ... ...son Joseph is also under their control and he decides to take direct action against them. He manages to borrow a starship, as you do, and sets off to find and confront them. But circumstances are already moving the totality in his direction and soon the whole federation will be drawn into a frightening war. Kirk will finally get the answers he is after but perhaps not the answers he wants. It all culminates on Spocks home world of Vulcan and what ...

With the civil war on Romulus averted, Kirk is finally free to seek out the truth behind the death of his oldest and closest friend. Was Spock killed by the shadowy organisation known as the Totality? A generous offer from Starfleet provides him with the starship he needs in order to reach his goal. Their only proviso: they can call on his help if they need him. What happened to Spock is just one of Kirk's worries: Joseph, his son, is rebelling wildly against the restrictions placed on him at the price of Romulan peace. Is the Totality somehow also linked to Joseph's rage? But before he can find the answers to either troubling question, Kirk receives a call from Admiral Janeway, telling him she needs him to save the Federation. Torn between his mission and his duty, the cause of the Federation must claim him one more time before he can turn his attention either to his friend or to his son.
